Pix in Circles Gallery..
-
I am a little confused as to why the pix I use are displayed in one column and very large, no matter if I choose ‘thumbnail / medium / or large’… They are also mostly in one column…?
This doesn’t always happen, and I wish I could choose the amount of columns like you used to be able to, with circles… as it’s my ‘gallery of choice’ mostly.

Hello!
Couple Questions
Is this a recent development?
Is this post the only post it has affected?
https://apanache.wordpress.com/2012/12/27/auroras-space/Also,
1. Can you confirm you have created a gallery using the pictures?2. If so, Can you confirm you have edited the gallery using the gallery settings feature? Gallery settings allow the user to set the columns and gallery style (such as circles)
See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/3. To fix the size of the images, can you confirm that you have edited the picture (not the gallery) size?
See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/4. Finally, WordPress allows users to edit the gallery-short codes. You might be able to edit the gallery by adding text to the short code in the Text Editor

Yes it’s fairly recent.. and yes, that also used to show as 1 large pic and then the rest in 2 rows and smaller but this is the post I am also annoyed with
1: yes, it’s here >> I have updated a few times to different sizes Link is above…
2: yes, as stated in my first comment
3: this is confusing as the picture size should not matter when choosing size in gallery… actually they were quite small to begin with, so the enlarged size that it uses now does not make sense..
4: Thanks, editing in shortcodes worked, still is pretty silly that the size option does not work for the circles.. -

Yes… same here, so Thanks again, I just wish the column choice was there for circles like it was a while back, very annoying in fact to have to go to text and ‘find’ it to change it to a ‘2’ column… A bug they should fix I think!

The ability to set the number of columns for anything other than the default thumbnail Gallery I believe was a bug which was resolved a couple of months ago.
When you use Tiled mosaic Galleries (tiled, circle and square), they will fill the entire width of the content posting area regardless of how many images are displayed. Both the circle and square tiled Galleries default to three images per row (depending on content container width) and if you have more than a multiple of 3, it will take the odd images out and make them bigger to fit the content width. See here: https://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2012/10/05/shapes-and-mosaics-new-ways-of-displaying-your-gallery-thumbnails/

@afreestyler – As JustJennifer mentioned, the circle gallery should default to 3 like the example that I created here:
If you click over to the Text Editor for your post, you’ll see the following:
[gallery type="circle" columns="1" ids="1573,1570,1571,1574"]Removing the column portion of that shortcode should solve the issue here. Can you give that a try?

The circle gallery is defaulting to one and as pccosta88 pointed out, the only way to fix it is to go into text editor to change it to 2 (which I prefer). I rarely use 3 anyway.
Either way, if I ‘delete’ the column portion or specify the amount of columns I want.. it is still too much work compared to what it used to be like. To go into ‘text editor’ every time and fiddle is annoying. As I mentioned, pcosta88 pointed out the remedy for that.
So I guess you’re saying Jeremey, that it is some kind of glitch that wordpress won’t ‘fix’ in the future?.. Within the gallery specifics; as it was in the beginning I’m sure I used to specify column number with circles..
Thanks Jeremey

I’m not saying that at all! I’m just unable to reproduce this. Whenever I create a circle gallery, it defaults to three columns. Here’s a screencast of what I’m experiencing:
When you create a new gallery in a brand new post, you’re still experiencing this. Is that correct? Could you let me know if you’re using the Classic Editor (/wp-admin in the URL) or the new editor at wordpress.com/post?
-
Ok.. have just checked, and with a new post it does default to three.. but will still have to change it to two in the shortcodes next time as I never use three.
For some reason, all my posts that contained a circle gallery; prior to ‘some point’ were changed to ‘one’ though, so this is something I will have to fix per post.
Yes, have always used the ‘classic editor’.
Thanks again.

Hi @afreestyler,
Outside of this post, could you point me to another post on your blog that has the circle image gallery setup?
-
It really isn’t an issue now, as I’ve stated pcosta88 sorted out how I can fix it. The other one I found, I decided to leave with the ‘one’ column is this one there is really nothing for me (or you..) to do except, when I have the time work out which posts need fixing and I now know how to do that. Thanks to pcosta88
My main Issue with with WordPress now, is that they are hopefully going to reinstate the flexibility to choose how many columns, regardless of the gallery style you choose. As it used to, it is extremely frustrating to go to the shortcodes (and ‘find’ it within the text) and edit this every time I use the gallery.
Until that issue is sorted, it seems I and others, will Always have the problem.
-
@afreestyler – I understand. As of right now, the only method is through editing the shortcode.
