Placement of Links
-
I have placed my Links widget in my main sidebar.
Links, however, displays on all pages except my front page.
My front page is a static page with a grid template within the Motif Theme. It is not the Motif Theme front page.
Apart from Links, I have set all other widgets to appear in the footer.
The footer widgets appear on ALL pages. Is it possible to put Links in the footer of my front page, and leave Links in the main sidebar on the other pages?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, John
You should be able to do this by editing the widget visibility settings. You’ll need to add the widget to both the sidebar and to the footer, and then edit the footer widget’s visibility to only display on the home page. Details here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility -
Thanks kokkieh.
I have completed stage 1, by putting the links widget in both places.
I have not completed stage 2 regarding visibility.I shall read deeper into the link you sent me.
Thank you once again. -

No. The categories the support doc refers to is your post categories, not the link categories.
All you’ll basically need to do is select the settings, Show if ->Page is ->Front page. Then that widget will only appear on the front page. I don’t think you’ll need to change anything else.

That link categories is something completely different. That’s for if you want to sort your blogroll links into different categories. The widget will then display all your links, but only sorted. Most people don’t even bother with that and just display their blogroll as one list.

I actually have a number of categories on my roll. It will just take a bit of comprehending on my part. Thank you for pointing out the difference.

Finished, absolutely perfect, exactly what I wanted.
That last tip of yours really helped me understand. Thank you kindly.

So just one more thing on that same issue that you may be able to help me with.
In the other pages, NOT my front page, I have about 4 categories of links in my sidebar. 3 of the categories I am happy if they sit in the sidebar.
The 4th category is not important and I would like it to sit would like it to sit in the footer.
Do you know if this is possible?
-
No, it’s not possible to split your blogroll. It either shows all the links or none of them.
A workaround could be to remove the links in the fourth category from your links menu, and then add those links manually to a text widget in your footer. You’ll need to add the links via html to have them display correctly in a text widget. Here’s the instructions how to add links via html: https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/#adding-a-link

Yes, that sounds like a great idea. I shall do what you say.
The unimportant category is the original blogroll provided by WordPress.
Thank you very much for all your help.

You can actually just remove those links completely if you don’t want them. We’re under no obligation to display those links (unlike the links in the footer). They’re just the default setting. It’s completely up to you.

The category cloud displays all your post categories with the font size of any given category dependant on how many posts are in that category – again nothing to do with links :)
