placing categories in a specific order, not the default order

Is there a way to list the categories of my blog in the sidebar such that they will appear, top to bottom, in a specific order that I want that is different form what the default order is?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Create your own categories widget by coding it yourself and putting it in a text widget in the order you want it.
You can use the visual post editor to make it easier and then when you are done, switch to the HTML tab and copy and paste the content into the text widget. Whenever you add a new category, you will have to manually update the text widget.
