Placing photos

  I’m trying to place photos in a photo essay in my post, but they do not stay where I put them. When I save, then preview the draft, I find the photos in different spots, sometimes imposed on top one another and no amount of working with the spacing and HTML in the draft seems to clear this up. I’d prefer the photos appear in the post, rather than as a slideshow, so I can vary the layout and placement of captions.
