Placing Social media Icons

I was wondering how to place social media icons in the sidebar of a free WordPress blog. Many blogs I see have rows or columns of icons in the sidebar, and when you click on them they like back to said social media (i.e, Twitter, Facebook, etc).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can locate images for any social networks you belong to and upload those images into your blog and link them to your profile pages at the respective social networks. You can also use social bookmarks at the end of all of your posts so they can be submitted to social networks by your readers. I use these bookmarks because they automatically update my twitter account immediately after I publish http://getsociallive.com

I have a social media icon “bar” and I have this on a ‘text’ widget:
<p style=”text-align:center;”><img title=”Tweet Me @ImAprilE” SRC=”http://imaprile.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/twitter.png” /><img title=”Check Out My Videos” SRC=”http://imaprile.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/youtube1.png” /><img title=”Email ImAprilE” SRC=”http://imaprile.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/email.png” /><img title=”Blip.fm” SRC=”http://imaprile.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/blip1.jpg”>As TT said above, you would find the icons you want for your social media interests (I found mine on Google Images), then upload into your media library. Then, you copy the supplied URL of each file into the code above. That should do it!
p.s. After the “img title” is where you would put what you want to appear when someone hovers over the icon.

Note that social media bookmarking buttons in your sidebar will only refer people to your blog as a whole, not to that particular post. Thus, they’re not of as great a value as social media bookmarking buttons in each post.

You’re so right about that. The sidebar buttons are only linked to profile pages. They aren’t providing a means for readers to click instantly submit a specific post they like to social networks like the bookmarks at the end of my posts do. The sidebar buttons also don’t automatically update twitter when I publish a post.

My reply/post was simply for an icon bar that will link readers to the home page of certain social media sites you use, ie: Facebook, Twitter, etc. I think that’s what the op was asking for? I could be wrong.
I have the ‘addtoany’ bar under each of my posts. I LOVE it. It bookmarks each post individually and does not require a bunch of code.

Yes, I think that’s what the OP was asking for. I’m just giving my perspective that adding them to each post is more work, but a far better idea.

Oh, I do add them to each post – with a simple click of a button from my browser bookmark tab. (saved from the ‘addtoany’ website: http://www.addtoany.com/
In addition, I have a social media “bar” (more like saved images with links) in a text widget labeled “Where You’ll Find Me”

@mirandabreon – Sorry, the code I originally sent you was supposed to have the links. I guess it’s not letting me put all the HTML code here. How can I email to you?
Once you receive it, and If you copy & paste (with editing for YOUR filenames, URL’s, etc.) the provided code in a ‘text’ widget, it will allow your readers to go directly to the profile/home page of the social media sites you choose. It will also include the ‘hover’ titles. Just be sure to replace MY info with YOUR info. :)

It is, isn’t it!!!
I think so especially because communicating with individual questions takes time. And if you are going to spend the time helping someone, then it is a more efficient use of your time and generosity to speak publicly.
Lots of people read these forums to find answers, and many just lurk.
