Plan choices for Setting up a Revised Website for a nonprofit

I am on a committee that runs a couple of events that all benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. When we started this group in 2005, a high school student offered to set up a website for us and he set up the hosting, which has been free. Recently, we discovered that we are going to have to recreate our website from scratch and figure out what we need to do to get it hosted. I am trying to figure out what plan is best for us because I need to report back to the group. We need to be able to set up registration forms that visitors can fill in and submit and then are directed to PayPal transactions on our website.

I am also struggling with just getting started because we do already have a domain, which that student originally set up for us, but I need to make sure that he releases that on his end.

    What suggestions can you offer?

  • You can use a contact form for the registration form, that’s available at all levels, even the free plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/form-block/

For money, you can take donations via a PayPal button, that will also work on any plan, even the free plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

We also offer our Simple Payments feature, which is a bit more advanced, and that requires at least a paid Premium Plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/simple-payments-block/

For something even more advanced, we have our Store feature, which requires a paid Business plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/store/

    Thanks. That is very helpful.

Can I start building the site without having the actual domain name that we will eventually have access to? When I tried to begin getting started, the set up pages wanted to send me to the “transfer a domain” page before I could move on.

Can I call it something else first and then connect the domain?

  • Hi there,

When I tried to begin getting started, the set up pages wanted to send me to the “transfer a domain” page before I could move on.

Sorry about that. You’re welcome to call it something else for now, then transfer or map the domain when you’re ready.
