Plan for my existing web page

I already have a website but need wordpress support, if I pay one of these plans can I use the chat support?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there,

Yes you can. The annual WordPress.com Premium, Business, or eCommerce plan, you will have access to priority Live Chat support.

You can also ask questions here on the forums and volunteers like myself and/or staff members will reply.

Note that the live chat support will only be helpful if your site is actually using the WordPress.com platform and not the self-hosted open source WordPress.org. Can you please share the URL of the site you need help with?

For more information about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this article:

    Hello again,

It seems that your website is not running the WordPress.com platform but its using the open-source WordPress.org platform. Since the platforms are different you should ask for help at their support forums to get more adequate help:

Read this to find out more about the difference between the two:

    Hope this helps!

Is it possible for me to switch from the WordPress.org (opne-source) to the WordPress.com? Can the information I have there be migrated to the WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

Yes that is entirely possible. WordPress.com has made a very easy to follow and detailed guide specifically for this purpose:
    https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

Please follow the steps there to move your website on the WordPress.com platform.

The only thing you will need to consider is the plan you will need. If you require installing plugins, custom themes or doing any e-commerce you will need either the Business or the eCommerce plan.

Also can you share what type of support you’re hoping to get?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am interested in Business Plan. I work by myself and I don’t have the expertise to do many things on my own, especially when there is a problem. I would like to have Customer Support to help me out when things go wrong.

Can the folks at WordPress migrate [www.tcidoren.com] and [www.tcidoren.com/ingles] from WordPress.org to WordPress.com once I pay the business plan?

How can I let the team at WordPress know that I want to migrate my webpage?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have flagged this post so that WordPress.com staff can step in and provide more information on your situation, especially regarding the migration of your website.

The support you’re looking for sound exactly like the amazing support WordPress.com is known for, so I don’t think you will have any issues with that. We’ll be glad to have you on board.

Buddy, I really appreciate your help on this. I am currently with Bluehost and would like to migrate [www.tcidoren.com] and [www.tcidoren.com/ingles] with WordPress.com Business Plan.

Could you please let them know about it and what I need to do other than pay?

Is there an extra cost for the WordPress Team do do the migration? Is there a downtime while migration is on the way?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello, again Stephan,

I don’t think the WordPress team will do the migration for you, but I’m sure they will guide you through every step of the process.

WordPress.com offers a migration tool with the Business plan or higher. Once you get the business plan activated on your account, you can install, activate, and connect the Jetpack plugin on your self-hosted website. After this is done, it is very easy to migrate the entire site. You can see a visual guide about how to do this here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/#option-1-migrate-from-self-hosted

Keep in mind that if you purchase the Business plan, you will immediately have access to Live Chat Support and they will guide you through the entire process.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you, once again. I’m going towards the Business Plan!

Additionally, only once the migration is successful and everything is working as expected you should map your domain to your new site. Mapping a domain basically means changing which site it displays when someone enters it. This means that you wont have any down time on your website. More about Domain Mapping here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

Once the migration is successful and domain is mapped to your WordPress.com website, then you can choose to transfer the domain to WordPress.com. Transferring a domain means you change who you pay to renew it. This makes it easier for you to manage you’re entire site since you will be dealing only with WordPress.com. More about domain transfers here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

I’ll keep everything you said in mind. I’ll start preparing for the migration. You Rock! Thank you!

  • Thanks @luanluta for the assist here!

    @stephandoren
to add a bit more color here, the process of migrating a self-hosted WordPress site (your Bluehost sites to us is possible under our business plan, and is completely automated. I’ll explain here, but we also go over this in https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/#option-1-migrate-from-self-hosted, which is already shared above.

    1. You will need to first create a new site here on WordPress.com and upgrade it to the Business plan
    2. You will also want to add the Jetpack plugin to your Bluehost site and make sure you use the same WordPress.com account to connect Jetpack to that site
    3. Essentially we would need to see both your BH site (connected via Jetpack) and your WordPress.com site under a single WordPress.com account.
    4. Once you have that set up, you can go to My Site(s) → Tools → Import and choose the WordPress import option
    5. Enter the address of your BH site in the box, then follow the steps on your screen to start the automated import!

Please note that the Business plan is a per/site upgrade. So to import both of your BH sites will require two plan upgrades. Learn more about our WordPress.com Business Plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Hi, jerrysarcastic.

Does the WordPress team do this automated migration for me with the Business Plan or do I have to find an IT person to help me out. I don’t know much about this topic nor am I tech savvy.

    What do you recommend?

  • Hi again,

As outlined above, as long as you have

a new (empty) site on this end that is upgraded to the Business plan
The Jetpack plugin installed on your Bluehost site and connected to your @stephandoren account

That is all you need. From there you can visit our import page, and you will just need to type in the address of your Bluehost site and click a button… the importer will take care of the rest, so no IT help is needed.

If you have any issues with the import, you will have priority support at https://wordpress.com/help/contact and that will connect you with our Business Site support team so they can take a closer look.

    Hope this helps!

One last question: I have a multisite [www.tcidoren.com] and [www.tcidoren.com/ingles].

Can I import only the Student Platform [www.tcidoren.com/ingles] and leave [www.tcidoren.com] at Bluehost, or do I have to import both sites to WordPress.com?

  • Yes, that’s possible. However, if you want to use the same URL, then you’ll need to use a subdomain (ingles.tcidoren.com) as mapping a site to a subdirectory is not supported on WordPress.com.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
