Plan owner no longer exists; how can I transfer ability to manage purchases?

I am managing a webpage for my department, located at fmuenglish.com. A previous colleague set up the account on WordPress with her work email account, and she is no longer working with us, and her email account is no longer active. I need to renew our domain hosting with WordPress.com, but have never figured out how to transfer ownership now that the original owner has disappeared. We desperately need someone at WordPress to step in and override, since I can’t fix it on my end (and I have tried and tried!). If I can be made owner, that would solve all our problems. What can I do??

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

fmuenglish.com is registered with us, but it belongs to the username, fmuenglishblog. We can only make changes to that domain if it is requested by that username. We cannot make exceptions to this under any circumstances, as transferring a domain without the owner’s consent is a violation of ICANN regulations and can even make us legally liable.

We only recognise the individual who registered a domain as the owner, not the organisation that uses the domain – it was an individual who bought the domain and accepted our terms, not an organisation.

You will need to contact the person who bought the domain and ask her to contact us for help with transferring the domain. The only other way to obtain ownership of that domain is if it were to expire and be released, at which point anyone can register it again.
