Plan purchase query

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear WordPress Team,
I own a Translation and Transcription Company based in India and I am looking to get a website for my business and buy domain. For this I have chosen wordpress as this is the most trusted brand.
Now my query is which subscription plan will best suit my needs. My main questions are about:
    1. What plan to buy.
    2. What features will actually apply and will be useful to my business
    3. Explanation about payment gateways. I know ecommerce plan has this feature inbuilt but what ocuntries can I receive payments from and through which means, like paypal etc.
    4. How is business plan subscription different from the ecommerce plan.
    5. If I buy bisness plan and then buy payment gateway feature seperately what will it mean as compared to buying ecommerce plan.
    6. I would also be needing to buy emails for my domain eg. (email visible only to moderators and staff)

So basically I am starting from scratch and aiming for the stars.
I hope you can adress all my queries and provide me with suitable answers so that I can get on with your services.

    Regards

    Hello there.

In this page you can see all the features of each plan. Then you can decide what plan suits you best: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/. This other page you can see a feature-by-feature comparasion: https://wordpress.com/pricing/.
With the WordPress.com Business and eCommerce plans you can sell anything directly through your website with the free WooCommerce plugin. For more information see the WooCommerce site.

    5. If I buy bisness plan and then buy payment gateway feature seperately what will it mean as compared to buying ecommerce plan.

In both Business and eCommerce you can collect payments. The differences are at some features that doesn’t have in the Business plan like accepting payments in 60+ countries, access to premium WooCommerce extensions and premium Storefront child themes, among other features. Basically it depends on your goal.

    6. I would also be needing to buy emails for my domain eg. (email redacted)

WordPress offers an affordable, robust, hosted email solution called Professional Email, which gives you the ease of managing it from your WordPress.com account. Additionally, they offer other solutions to meet your email needs that are described here: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/#professional-email.

Can you provide a link to the list. ANd I believe it means I will be able to Accept payment from these 60+ countries, a feature which otherwise is not present in business plan. Is that it or am I missing on something.

Exactly, this feature is present only in the eCommerce plan.

And how will I be able to collect payments from my clients, through credit and debit cards, if yes then will all major cards in those 60+ countries be supported and what about other methoods like Paypal etc.

  • Hi @aman79619

Can you provide a link to the list. And I believe it means I will be able to Accept payment from these 60+ countries, a feature which otherwise is not present in business plan. Is that it or am I missing on something.

To add more detail to the conversation, this is the difference between the Business and eCommerce Plans in plain terms:

    • Business plan: Does not come with any plugins installed, but you can install anything you like/need
    • Ecommerce plan: Similar to the Business Plan, you can upload any plugin you wish, but in addition we pre-install several premium ecommerce plugins that are helpful for larger/international ecommerce sites.

You could if you wish purchase the business plan, and then purchase (individually) all the premium plugins we add on the ecommerce site, and you would essentially have the same thing. You can see a full list of all the premium plugins included in the eCommerce Plan here: https://wordpress.com/support/ecommerce-plan/#whats-included

The advantage of the eCommerce Plan of course is that it is less cost the purchasing the premium plugins individually. However, you could start with the Business Plan and then add the just following premium WooCommerce payment extensions, which would replicate the 60+ country payment feature of the eCommerce Plan: https://wordpress.com/support/ecommerce-plan/#payment-gateways

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Regarding WooCommerce payment gateway, it is only supported in 0 countries and does not include India.

Can you clarify by which other means I will be able to collect payments from my customers when they buy the service.

And also which of these gateways can I use for charging a subscription fee from my customers.

  • There are hundreds of payment gateway plugins for WooCommerce, covering many payment processors in many different countries.

The payment gateway plugins listed at https://wordpress.com/support/ecommerce-plan/#payment-gateways are just the ones that are pre-installed on the eCommerce plan. You can find many more in the WooCommerce plugin marketplace at https://woocommerce.com/product-category/woocommerce-extensions/payment-gateways/, and there are even more available if you search Google for options.

Any of these plugins can also be used on the Business Plan.

If you’re located in India, find out what payment processors support payments in that country. Then search for a payment gateway plugin for that particular payment processor. Stripe, for example, one of the biggest payment processors in the world, is supported in India, and their payment gateway plugin is already pre-installed in the eCommerce plan:

    https://support.stripe.com/questions/supported-payment-methods-currencies-and-businesses-for-stripe-accounts-in-india

And also which of these gateways can I use for charging a subscription fee from my customers.

For that you’ll need to ask support for the specific subscription plugin you plan to use, as you’d need a payment gateway plugin that’s compatible with your subscription plugin.
