  We are looking to upgrade to a paid plan. We want to use subdomains off of the main domain. My question is, does each subdomain cost if we link it back to the domain with the paid plan?

  If your site has a WordPress.com paid plan, there are no additional charges for using subdomains under your main domain. You can create subdomains without incurring extra costs. However, if you want to connect multiple domains to your WordPress.com site, you may be prompted to verify domain ownership before beginning the setup process.
