Hi @classicproofread,
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you can re-register a domain once you have cancelled it. There is some lock-in period for which the domain is unavailable for a period of time.
For all domain related help read the following article-
All about DomainsFor info regarding cancelled domains and refunds see below article-
Cancelled DomainsHope this helps!

Are you saying even if no one registers for that domain and it’s available, I’m not gonna be able to register with new hosting anyways or it will just take a while?
-
It can take a while actually and there’s no fixed time I can quote.
You might want to read this thread-
Re-registering Cancelled Domain -
It is going to be months before that cancelled domain is available again. And, someone else could actually beat you to getting it registered. In which case, you’d be left empty handed.
Please let me know which domain you’re inquiring about. The only way to secure ownership of it is for us to restore it to your account. The domain can still be used somewhere else by editing the DNS. Once it is 60 days old you can transfer it outright to another registrar if you like.
I hope that helps clear things up.
