Plan renewal

  I renewed my custom domain for I believe every year for four plus years. My plan expired four months ago and I would really like to see if I could have your grace to renew for $18 as a loyal customer?

  Hi there,

  I’d very much like to let you renew the domain at the regular price, but with domains I’m afraid is not as simple as just what we’d like to do. When a domain expires it is removed from our account and goes back to the control of our registrar for a period of time before they delete it and release it again so anyone can register it. This period is called Redemption.

  In most cases we can still get a domain back from our registrar during the redemption period, but they charge a $80 fee to give us the domain back, so you will need to pay this fee along with the renewal cost.

  Your other option is to wait for the redemption period to complete and the registrar to release the domain at which point you can register it as a new domain at the regular price. However, I cannot tell you exactly when this will happen and it could still be several weeks, and you also run the risk of losing the domain – when it’s released anyone will be able to register it, and someone could register it before you are able to.

  Knowing all this, how would you like to proceed?
