Plan to buy the paid version of WordPress.com
-
Hi,
I plan to buy the introductory paid version of WordPress.com.
However, I’m a guy who have already submitted many resumes to my employers. I left my personal website address as: https://yidechen.wordpress.com/If I buy the paid version, I’ll change my website address to: https://yidechen.com
If so, could my employers review find my website properly?
Thank you so much!
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hey there, glad you asked!
When you buy a custom domain, it will be added to your existing site. You’ll get to choose a primary address (we’ll presume it’s your custom domain). The other URL will redirect automatically to the primary address.
This is done as a “301” redirect as well, which is good for search engines: they’ll get a signal that the site has been moved to the new address so they can update their links accordingly.

Hi, thank you so much!
It sounds great! Then, I have a follow-up question for you:
If I purchase the upgrade on August 1, 2022, but I don’t buy it again next year. What will happen on August 2, 2023?For example, my address will become back to yidechen.wordpress.com?
Thank you!

Hi there,
When a custom domain on WordPress.com expires the site reverts to using it’s free “wordpress.com” address instead.
Please note that there will be no redirection to this no address though. When a custom domain expires it’s not possible to redirect traffic for technical reasons, so if anyone tries to visit yidechen.com (to use your example) they would not see your site once it expires.
But if you were to manually type in yidechen.wordpress.com then yes you would see the site as expected.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
