Plan Upgrade questions

    Hi guys,
    thanks for keeping this awesome system up and running, you are literally changing the world.. for the best ;)

    I have set up a site a while ago and registered a custom domain name else where, however, I am looking to improve the credibility and look of the site by having my custom domain name instead of …wordpress.com

    I am wondering, you being such revolutionary in the best way possible, if you could help me get this ‘custom’ build with an upgrade to your personal plan, I am looking for having these 3 options in order to upgrade my actual plan:

    – Custom domain displaying as primary on site, fully working with (example.com/blog/…) not only forward with masking;
    – Custom email to this domain name (ex: (email visible only to moderators and staff));
    – Double language site and blog entries (ideally with a simple solution like qtranslateX);

    Please let me know what we can do together.
    Thank you very much for all your time and attention in advance,

    Rúben Teixeira

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey @rubengte!

    Thanks for all the kind words! I agree WordPress.com is doing big things and am excited about its future.

    In short, everything you requested is totally within reach!

    To answer your first question, in order to remove .wordpress.com from your domain and replace it with a custom or “top-level” domain, you will need to upgrade your plan. All plan upgrades come with one free domain credit that will allow you to register your top-level domain. For more info on this process check out our Register Domain support page.

    On WordPress.com we provide e-mail forwarding, but if you’d rather have full email hosting, you can connect another provider to your custom domain. In my experience, Zoho Mail is a fine alternative.

    If you choose to register a domain through WordPress.com, you will be able to purchase a G Suite (formerly known as Google Apps) account during sign up. You can also add G Suite to an existing domain registration or domain mapping. If you would like to learn how to add a custom domain to your site, please see this article.

    More information about custom email can be found here and here.

    As a global blogging service, multilingual blogs are also something we’ve put a lot of consideration into making easier for users to create. For options on how to make a more multilingual blog check out this support page.

    I’m excited about your prospects! Let me know if you have other questions.

    Best,
    Travis

    Oh and almost forgot! The Google Translate Widget allows you to automatically translate your site content into any language that is supported by Google Translate. Perhaps that will come in handy as well.

    Hi Travis,

    Thanks a million for your super fast and kind answer.. When motivated people get together amazing things happen, every time ;)

    In regards to the options you presented, I am happy with the first 2 but not so much with the multi language one..
    I am looking for a solution (like QtranslateX) that allows to write both language posts at the same time and so making it effortless.

    Everything that saves work to an already time consuming task (which is blogging and spreading the goodies online) is a must.

    I really want to make my best contribution possible to everyone who is aligned with my life vision, however, not compromising too much of my “real life” projects while doing it.

    Google translate would be an awesome quick solution if it did not have still so many flaws in translation (doing an amazing work, though).
    My publications are mostly about my life learning’s and personal views and having them mistranslated could be complicated.

    Any insights on this will be appreciated.
    Thank you dearly again my friend,

    Rúben G.T.

    Hi again!

    I understand now why you’d want to go that route. Unfortunately, most of WordPress.com’s plans do not offer third-party plugins, such as the one you’re interested in.

    I am seeing though that with a Business Plan it possible to install any plugin appearing in the WordPress.org plugin repository. This includes QtranslateX. But in terms of price (almost $300/year) and features, Business would be a pretty big step up! I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re really sure QtranslateX is worth the money, or unless you think you could use the added features.

    You might also try checking out this very informative forum thread for more information on managing multilingual sites.

    Let me know if you have other questions and I’ll be happy to assist.

    Best!

    Thank you again my friend, will check it out carefully.

    Anything above Personal Plan is out of the question simply because like everything I do, I don’t buy what I don’t use..
    In this case I simply need the domain, email and dual language options and beautiful things can happen from there.

    The hosting solves all this but then adds a whole lot of other things to care after and their downtime also is accountable (I was on Hostmonster for 7 years and every week got reports from a wordpress plugin alerting to the site being down for several minutes each time).

    So I decided to keep things as simple as possible, for me and for all those who visit my site.
    That is the best way to spread the word, simplicity is always key.
    Confused most people already are with everything going around us these days around the world.

    Sorry about the “side talk”, thanks again Travis. Appreciated!
    Rúben
