  I would like to upgrade to a paid plan but not with the existing site I have

  Hi there!

  No problem, you can click on My Site>Add new site and then upgrade that new one :)
  You can have multiple sites under one account and you can easily switch between them by clicking on My Sites>Switch site.

  Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.
