    Hi can you guide me what are all the steps to be taken while upgrading from free to annual premium subscription. My url is https://philosophyviaphotos.wordpress.com. I am confused about domain ,domain mapping,domain registration,private registration etc. Which one I have to select ?

    domain mapping

    Domain mapping would only really apply to you if you register your domain outside WordPress.com but wish to use it on a WordPress.com blog.

    This isn’t really the recommended option if you don’t have a domain yet as it can become more pricey, and more inconvenient. Assuming you don’t have a domain yet, you’ll likely want to register one with WordPress.com.

    domain registration

    When you purchase a premium plan, you receive a domain credit. This can be used to get a free domain for your website, meaning instead of going to https://philosophyviaphotos.wordpress.com, readers could just go to https://philosophyviaphotos.com.

    Note: I’m using philosophyviaphotos.com as an example, you could register any domain which suits your needs on WordPress.com provided it:

    1) Hasn’t already been taken by another user
    2) Ends in an ending (TLD) & only uses characters supported by WordPress.com. You can see all of them here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-pricing-and-available-tlds/

    private registration

    Put simply: when you register your domain, some of the information which you may consider personal will be published and can be found by searching your domain name. However, purchasing Private Registration stops this from happening.

    It does get a bit more complicated due to changes arisen as a result of the GDPR, as your information will often be prevented from being published, but purchasing Private Registration still has other benefits. The good news is that when you purchase a paid plan, Private Registration can be included for free!

    Which one I have to select ?

    My honest advice would be to purchase a paid plan, and then register a domain which you like using these steps: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

    Since Privacy Protection is included by default, I would recommend using it as it’s free. That, of course, depends on whether or not you want your information out there, so it’s up to you.

    I’d also recommend choosing a plan first via My Site > Plans, then using your domain credit as you’d like.
