  I am just trying to buy a plan without doing any transferring of my site yet. Can’t seem to do so, because the prompts just keep trying to make me transfer site or domain first. Why is the wordpress site so hard to navigate? Is there a site map anywhere that I don’t have to ask a question each time I want to do something not in the order you have set up? How can I buy a plan so that I can start building my site before I transfer everything?

  If https://medicalillustrationportfolio.wordpress.com/ is a free site then you can continue to work on that. When you’re ready you can purchase an upgraded plan for that site to enable you to map/transfer an existing domain to it.
