PLANS

Hello, I do not understand if I should purchase a plan on WordPress.com.
I can just use local host for free without buy a plan?
Why I need a local host?
    What it is local host?
    Thanks.

  • Hi yairc22! Localhost means you’re using a copy of WordPress on your own computer. It would not be accessible on the web unless you have your computer set up as a webserver (which requires some maintenance, bandwidth, etc!) so if you intend your site to be public, I would recommend getting a public host.

If you’re just trying to learn about the guts of WordPress, having a local copy is great. Just be advised it’s quite different from our services, too, since we include support, hosting, maintenance, security, and the functionality of many plugins. Here’s the difference between a copy of WordPress at the host of your choice, and our services:

And, if you’d just like to set up a free site here, you’d be welcome to do that too. You’d get a .wordpress.com subdomain (or a .home.blog or similar option) and these features:
