Play WMV videos with upgrade?
-
I need to make sure about an upgrade that WordPress offers. I read somewhere on this site that one can pay extra for more and better accommodation of videos on one blog. That if I pay extra, I will be able to play any video that I find on the internet or that is sent to me.
My big question is — just to make sure — does that include those WMV videos?
thank you.

Hi There!
VideoPress is so you can upload your own videos to your blog…
If you would more options with posting videos to your blog I recommend using one of the following options…
You can use the vodpod bookmarklet or their Firefox extension to embed videos not support with a short code for WP.com
Firefox extension… https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5685/bookmarklet http://vodpod.com/wordpress/
I also recommend reading this article/tutorial for another option to for adding videos to your blog… The gigya shortcode 1 – inserting videos

The VideoPress enables you to upload videos to your WordPress.com Media Library. The upgrade does allow you to upload WMV files. Once uploaded it will be re-coded in .mov and .ogv formats. You can find out more about the VideoPress upgrade here:

Dear Sanjidas: I tried Vocpod once and found it difficult to understand. I finally gave up. Also, this time I want videos (like the WMV variety) to play in my posts rather than on the sidebar.
I like the idea of being able to upload my own videos/videos that I have made, but I also want to be able to post any video that I see on the Internet. Often I see very good discussions, etc, but am not able to post them.
Tfardella: I will click that link. I know I found it / saw it once.

To Tfardella: I clicked that link. So, if I like a video that I see on a site, and it is not the usual YouTube video, I have to download it to my computer and then upload it to my Media Library and then choose it from the Media Library and put it on a post?
Are all Internet videos easily downloadable to my computer??? I have tried in the past but not figured out how to do it.

@lornakismet,
This post shows that it is possible to have vodpod videos in a wordpress.com blog post.See this post, it includes an example of a video embed in a wordpress.com blog the vodpod way.
How to have Flash embeds in a wordpress.com blogIf you need help using vodpod, just ask.

@lornakismet,
Hello again,
Are all Internet videos easily downloadable to my computer??? I have tried in the past but not figured out how to do it.Actually, it is not mandatory to download online videos at all in order to be able to post in your blog. If you find an online video and if it gives you Flash embed code, you can easily post that video in your blog using vodpod.

But does Vodpod allow me to put the video in my post? My memory of Vodpod was that it was for videos on the sidebar.
I have a Vodpod account with two or three separate titles, all of which confused me, and I never understood how to get the videos onto the sidebar. I eventually gave up, and now I prefer videos in the post. ~Peregrine

There is the Vodpod widget, and there is the Vodpod Embed to WordPress button. They are different. You can put videos in your blog using Vodpod. You upload the video to Vodpod.com and then click Share and then click the WordPress icon and POOF! It’s in a new post on your blog.
You will NEVER be able to post all videos you see on the internet, because you don’t have the legal right to post them. Some videos provide the embed code, and those you can embed using Vodpod. If they allow you to download the video, you can then re-upload it to your blog if you have the videopress upgrade.
