  Please allow the dfn tag in wordpress.com posts. It’s harmless and useful.

  Hi there, thanks for the suggestion! I am checking with our developers to see if this is an option.

  In any case, there may be other ways to achieve the effects you are looking for without using this tag. Can you give me an example of how you would like to use it? I’d be happy to help look for another approach, in case the dfn tag can’t be added as an allowed tag.

  Most themes will simply style dfn as italic (or bold, or bold italic). For the human reader, there is no visible difference from a b or i tag. However, dfn is one of the “semantic web” tags that helps search engines (and other software) understand our writing.
