Please bring back photoblog theme
-
I was a user of “photoblog” theme and then it was gone, without notice. I know the reasons, but I like to use it and I’d buy it, if (or hopefully when) it becomes available again.
C’mon WP, throw us a bone on this one.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are still several themes available you can use for a photoblog, https://wordpress.com/themes?s=photoblog

Hi there, could you tell us what you liked about the Photo Blog theme? https://wordpress.com/theme/photo-blog That will help us give you suggestions for alternatives.
Again, I really wish The Powers That Be would leave the theme feature tags on retired themes. It would make it so much easier to look for similar themes.
If you are looking for themes with a grid layout:
https://wordpress.com/theme/photos
https://wordpress.com/theme/pictorico
and this Premium theme https://wordpress.com/theme/lensYou might also look at the Mayland theme https://wordpress.com/theme/mayland that has a nifty gallery on its static front page.

I liked how it displayed the shape of the post’s image and that it all slotted in perfectly with the design, I liked the overlay with the title and the color options. It was simple and effective.
I can make do with photos or baskerville, but photoblog nailed it.
I even liked blocco theme.
I’m not trying to be a pain and I realize progress needs to be made.

Have you had a look at Altofocus? https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus Make sure to click through to the demo site so you can get a better feel for the features.

I have and it misses the mark for what I’m after.
I’m having a go with “photos”, which is like a lite version of “photoblog”.

Hi there,
I use Photo Blog myself on one of my sites, so I understand why you like it. However, I’m afraid that theme won’t be coming back. It was retired due to lack of support for new features included in the WordPress block editor, and it was decided it wasn’t feasible to make the changes needed to add that support.
For now the self-hosted version of the theme for stand-alone WordPress sites can still be bought from https://creativemarket.com/automattic/2274897-Photo-Blog, but it’s no longer available on WordPress.com except for sites that had already purchased it before it was retired.
-
I’m not sure what you mean. When a theme is retired, the theme showcase page where the feature tags appear is also retired. Or are you expecting to see the feature tags somewhere else?

Hm, maybe we’re using different terminology. In my experience there are still links to retired theme pages around the site, like from a user’s theme dashboard theme INFO, various COM blog posts, even suggested themes on the support site, that lead to the theme showcase page where it says the theme has been retired. It’s on that page that I mean.
For example: https://wordpress.com/theme/photo-blog was previously tagged with
Custom Colors,Custom Menu,RTL Language Support,Sticky Post,Featured Images,Post Formats,Site Logo. Leaving the tags on the retired theme page could help users find similar themes.Hope that helps clarify.

We’re using the same terminology :)
Thanks for giving more details on what you meant. I’ll forward the request to our themes team to check if it’s at all possible.

I’m afraid that’s not possible in Photos, but you can have a look at Snaps:

I tried that means I have to convert my posts (and I have 45 of those) into portfolio entries and I can’t seem to do that.
So I might give it a miss, thanks anyway.
