Please bring back the Classic editor

I just can’t get used to the new Block editor . Like today, I put in quote block, but the text format is the same as the surrounding text. And most of the nice image gallery options I liked in the Classic editor are nowhere to be found. This Block editor is simplified to the point of obscurity. It’s horrible. Please bring back the Classic editor.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your support efforts as a volunteer, but I would have to strongly disagree that the block editor is a more ‘intuitive experience’. It’s the opposite of intuitive, because so much is hidden. It’s opaque. It’s obscure.

I’m trying to create a post right now, and my attempt to get a gallery block into the post ended up in a mini-disaster in which I lost the post completely. I’ll have to start that post again from scratch.

I don’t think ‘classic block’ is a good substitute for the Classic Editor because it lacks the media and gallery features that Classic has (or had).

Thanks for the link on how to find the Classic Editor. I plan to keep using it as long as I can, so that I don’t destroy my keyboard in frustration as I nearly did today.

I see you got some strong feedback from other disgruntled users. Are there a lot of other people are in the anti-Block camp?

  • Hi there,

I don’t think ‘classic block’ is a good substitute for the Classic Editor because it lacks the media and gallery features that Classic has (or had).

All the image and gallery features of the Classic editor have been incorporated into blocks with even more features. You can find more information here:

Please understand that we are WordPress.com a hosting provider that uses the WordPress software to power our sites. We’re following the direction of what the WordPress open source project is moving towards. The Block editor is their first step in modernizing WordPress. Here’s a quote from their FAQ:

Since the development of the WordPress software is moving in this direction, when new versions of the software are released, we update the software here at WordPress.com.
