Please Confirm My Domain Mapping Upgrade
-
I recently transferred the registration of my domain from WordPress (Automattic) to HostGator. Now, however, when I try to set the WordPress nameservers, I am not allowed to do so? I’m not sure what the problem is. Can you confirm whether or not my Domain Mapping upgrade is working? Thanks.

Hey Chris,
I’ve had a look at the mapping for ickeyshufflin.com, you are correct, the namsevers are not set to WordPress.com nameservers. You can see this for yourself using the domain checker tool:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=ickeyshufflin.com
The correct nameservers you need to use are:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMFor more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/I’m afraid that I can’t help with any issues changing the nameservers on HotGator as I don’t have access to their systems, so you’ll need to get in touch with them to have this resolved.
Once this is done, if things still are not working, get in touch and we’ll do our best to get things up and running correctly again.

Hey ClickySteve,
Thanks for the reply. The issue is that when I try to set my WordPress nameserver at HostGator, I receive and error message that says “one or more nameservers can not be set because they are invalid.”
I’m not sure if the issue is on their end or WordPress’. That’s why I wanted to confirm that my Domain Mapping upgrade was working. Could that possibly be the issue?
Thanks.

Hey Chris,
Yeah, no problem. Good to confirm!
Your domain mapping upgrade is applied to your account correctly, and isn’t set to expire until September 2014. That’s all that can be active before the nameservers are set at the registrar. Until then, there isn’t much else that can go wrong.
From the error message that you are receiving, I’d say that it’s definitely an issue on Host Gator’s end. It might sound obvious, but please make sure you’re entering:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMexactly like that – with no spaces after or before them (that can sometimes cause issues!) and that you are using all three.
If you’re still having trouble, get in touch with HostGator’s support and explain to them the error. They deal with lots of WordPress.com domains, so should be able to help you out in no time hopefully!
Hope this helps,
