Please excuse the noob – uploading header and adding text
-
Hiya
I’m new here – I’ve created some artwork for my header which I’ve created to the size required in the ‘upload header’ section – 940 × 198 pixels. I’m having some problems though, Will this size work with other themes other than ‘twenty ten’ default? Also I’m having problems adding text to my picture – it comes out bigger than the picture – can I add text after I upload or does it all need to be ‘as will appear on screen’ before uploading. Sorry for the confused tone here – new and not very tech minded lol.
Thanking you in advance for your help.

No, the header will not work as well with any theme with a different-sized header. It’ll have to be cropped or tiled or something.
Are you adding text to the picture? Use Photoshop or something to do that before uploading. If you mean you’re adding a tagline, use a shorter one.

If you are adding captions, then there will be padding around the images in any theme. That will make the width an image uses greater.
Captions often cause problems: if you use only the Visual Editor you cannot be certain exactly where your cursor is. Sometimes the captions will become entangled with other images or text which follows the pics.
If you contemplate changing themes, here is a guide for header image sizes:
