Please find other methods for 2nd level authentication
-
How about adding 2nd level authentication involving things OTHER than a mobile phone? I am a Foreign Service Officer assigned overseas. I am not always going to have a cell phone where I want to receive texts to my phone. For instance now in Mexico I do not have a text plan. It costs me a lot to receive a text. So your 2nd level authentication process does not work for me.

Hi there!
If you have an iOS, Android or Blackberry mobile phone, you may setup two-step authentication to work with the Google Authenticator application. The app generates codes for you without the need for a mobile network subscription.
Otherwise, we have what we call Backup Codes that you can generate from your desktop browser in case you lose access to your mobile phone.
Please bear in mind that each Backup Code is for one-time use only and a new set would have to be generated when you’ve run out.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

I’d ask that you still consider other ways to add multiple layers of authentication. Having to put in a code you receive by phone every single time you log in is a little time consuming. One of my banks requires not only a user name and password but also a PIN. Another bank requires a user name and password, an associated picture and a PIN. These add to the site security without requiring the proper user to receive and enter a one time code.

Hey!
Have you tried looking into the Google Authenticator app? I use this for my account myself, and I’m only asked to enter a code every once in a while. To have a similar experience, make sure that the “Stay signed in” option is checked every time you sign in. Thanks!
