PLEASE HELP!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    hi there,
the front page widgets on my home page were initially side by side next to each other, but are now stacked on top of each other. The format has gone all wrong and my pictures are now the wrong size and the page just looks awful. Please help me with this, i genuinely don’t know what to do about it.
    thank you.

    Hi,
I don’t see any widgets with images on your homepage, so I’m guessing you removed them for now. Is it possible that the widgets all somehow got moved into the same widget area (perhaps you switched themes?). If all your widgets are in the “First Front Page Widget Area” then they will be full-width and stacked vertically.

https://wordpress.com/themes/sela has detailed info on how to set up the homepage and widget areas.

I’m having the same issue as @bachinthecity with the Sela theme.

I have one widget in each of the “First, Second and Third Front Page Widget Areas” on my static front page. And they are still displaying in full screen mode, stacked on top of one another.

How can I get them back to the 3 column grid, like the demo site?

    Thx.

If you go to {yoursite}/wp-admin/widgets.php does it still show content in the 3 front page widget areas? (“First Front Page Widget Area,” “Second Front Page Widget Area,” “Third Front Page Widget Area,”)

I applied the Sela theme to my test site and the widget areas are working properly for me.

Yes, there is still content in all of them. It’s strange because it was working great and then all of a sudden switched on me.

  • Hi @bachinthecity, the issue on your site is that for the front page of Sela, you need at least one widget in each of the Front Page widget areas.

Go to My Site > Customize > Widgets and put something in Second Front Page Widget Area as well as Third Front Page Widget Area.

If you still have trouble after that, please leave it as is so we can troubleshoot. Thanks!

  • @lindsysproutedhealth yours was a bit trickier, but we’ve figured it out! Your HTML is a bit messed up.

You have a <strong> tag that opens but never closes, and that is causing it to break. If you’ll take that out, or add a </strong> after it, you’ll be fine.

Here’s a trick you can use if you’d like, though, for making HTML for the widgets:

    1) Create a new post. Insert an image. Insert some text. Style it up the way you like using the visual editor.

    2) Click on HTML. Copy the code.

    3) Paste that into your widget :)

    4) Discard the post as you’d like, or keep it as a private post so you can re-use it as a template when making other widgets.

    I hope that helps!

Perfect, thanks @supernovia that fixed it up.

Great idea on copying the code, I will do that from now on to make sure I don’t have any errors :)

    Thanks again!

  • No problem at all. Cheers!
