Please help before I purchase my plan and assist with what extras I require
-
Hi,
Im new to wordpress and about to purchase a plan and create a multivendor marketplace… I want to be able to include auto shipping estimates, cart which saves with login, email database with sign up, video demos in some categories, a plug-in which automatically sends orders on my site to vendor partners and takes my commission out also (?), a fast working website, extremely secure, a multiple choice quiz to help customers find their perfect product options, customers testimonials, discount codes, different language auto translation options and easily mobile compatible ….. (Ahh) Can you advise me on what is the best plan for me to purchase… and also what elements / plugins / widgets I need to do all the above mentioned? Also, when people advertise ‘themes’ which are outside of the wordpress website, can extra plugins / widgets be added if anything I am needing isnt in their customised theme or will I be stuck and restricted if I went with an outside designer? And would that custom theme purchased outside of the wordpress website own my content in any way… ? I want to own my site content also… So, I know there are a lot of questions here but I really need them answered before I move ahead with purchasing a plan and whatever extras are needed. I need to start this site this week.
Thank you, and really hope you can answer all my questions here today.
Warm regards,

Hi there,
That is a pretty broad set of questions, so I have taken them out of order a bit, and grouped them where they are related to one another.
Im new to wordpress and about to purchase a plan and create a multivendor marketplace…
I want to be able to include
– auto shipping estimates
– cart which saves with login
– discount codesAll of these are included by default in the WooCommerce ecommerce plugin, which is an option you can add to your site under the Business plan and the eCommerce plan. More info about WooCommerce here: https://woocommerce.com/
– a plug-in which automatically sends orders on my site to vendor partners and takes my commission out also (?)
– different language auto translation options
– a multiple choice quiz to help customers find their perfect product optionsThis is functionality that is not built in to WordPress but is added by a “plugin” to the site. To turn your store into a multi-vendor marketplace you can add the Product Vendors plugin for example. There are other 3rd party “multi-vendor plugins” that may also be free to use, but the advantage of the paid extension is that it is an official WooCommerce extension, and we fully support it in-house since WooCommerce is owned by the same parent company as WordPress.com.
For auto-translation, since this is not a built in ability you would need a plugin as well, several to choose from here: https://wordpress.com/plugins/ashremainscom.wordpress.com?s=auto+translate
Please note that auto-translation is something of a hit or miss, even in the best of circumstances. If you have ever used Google Translate to understand something in a foreign language, you know what I mean; sometimes it can leave a bit to be desired.
As for the “multiple choice quiz” this is novel to me. I have not really seen something like that before so its hard to recommend a plugin. Is there an example you have seen on another site that is similar? Perhaps a working example would help us to understand.
– email database with sign up
– video demos in some categories
– a fast working website, extremely secure
– customers testimonials
– and easily mobile compatibleThese are actually built in to the WordPress.com platform. Security and mobile compatibility is great here out of the box. Video can be uploaded and hosted on sites if they use either the Business or eCommerce plans, and Mailchimp (for creating an “email list” can be connected by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/mailchimp/
Can you advise me on what is the best plan for me to purchase… and also what elements / plugins / widgets I need to do all the above mentioned? Also, when people advertise ‘themes’ which are outside of the wordpress website, can extra plugins / widgets be added if anything I am needing isnt in their customised theme or will I be stuck and restricted if I went with an outside designer?
As mentioned previously you will need either our Business Plan or eCommerce plan to start out. This will allow you to upload any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress” so you are not limited to just our built-in options. You would also want to purchase the Product Vendors plugin to add that functionality to WooCommerce. And generally speaking you choose your theme for the design (look and feel) and plugins for functionality. So you can choose the theme you like for how it looks, and add any plugins you need to mix in the functions you desire.
As well the Business and eCommerce plans include 24/7 live chat support for any questions you have going forward, so you would have access to on-the-spot help anytime you need it. :)
And would that custom theme purchased outside of the wordpress website own my content in any way… ? I want to own my site content also…
On WordPress.com you own your own content for sure. The themes/plugins you use would not modify that, so nothing to worry about here. We even provide full export options so you can take your contents to another WordPress host, or even a competing platform (if they have a way to import from WordPress, which most do).
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

jerrysarcastic…. Thank you!
My goodness, I appreciate your advice and time to answer most of my questions.. And I think today I’ll grab the Business Plan and prior to launching upgrade to e-commerce for future growth..
So glad if I purchased a theme from themeforest.com for example, and plugin to my wordpress it’s still under wordpress T&C’s – great.
The rest, Im confident in now thanks to your links also…
Re a multiple choice element – I know its unfamiliar to online stores, however I’d like to have it on mine… Its a creative concept so not sure how to go about it… but for example when you are trying to compare insurance quotes, or find the perfect course to study, you can go through a series of multiple choice questions… even on some doctor’s/medical sites can have a ‘quiz’ component or ‘find out if you qualify’ page which is a question-by-question multiple choice box, which then usually says “calculating” or something similar and the best choices for you are presented.. ?
Not really like this but…. an example could be a page like this:
https://quiz.gretchenrubin.com/four-tendencies-quiz/
However, the point is to link it to a product on my store at the end of it… (?)
Other than that, very happy and grateful for all your wisdom..
;)
