Please help convert sql to xml
-
Hello there!
I have an old backup file (sql) that I have unsuccessfully been able to convert to xml – the needed file to upload to wordpress. I can no longer access my old hosting account.
My situation is identical to this one…
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/trouble-importing-backup/?replies=16Can someone pretty please help me complete the same thing? I would be sooo grateful!!
Thank you so very much!! :) :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @fs758934554, all of the same warnings would be in place — your plugins, themes, and media will all be missing, and some content still might not import correctly.
Given that, if you’re willing to upload the SQL and send a link, I can give it a shot here.

Hi, Supernovia!
Thank you so much for the reply! I would be so grateful! Please let me know how to upload and send you the link.
Much appreciation!!

You can upload the file for @supernovia here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/HZO5bMcpX7kRr2kxO1Sz

Thanks so much for letting me know! The file has been uploaded. I so very much appreciate this!! :)

You bet. I’ve used a WordPress installation to import and update your database, export as an XML, and now I’m running the import. You should get a notification when that’s done.
Please note this will *not* contain media, or data from plugins.

Can I kindly bugger you with one more question, please? The import link you sent me…how long is it available? Is it available indefinitely even without a hosted wordpress.org site?
Thank you, so sincerely, for your help!

The Dropbox link will likely be removed soon, so I recommend saving the file offered there on your computer.

Just clarifying, the dropbox link was just a place to put the file you uploaded.
I didn’t upload anything there — I just imported into your site here. So you don’t need to download anything from Dropbox. You need only work with the site here. If you want to create an export from that, you can.
Hoping that helps!

Very helpful, all around, thank you!
I suppose I was just trying to clarify that the import you did was, indeed, at wordpress.com, meaning it would be infinitely available, no matter if I had a hosting plan or not…?
Hope I have that correct.
Appreciate it!

Yes, all of the content I could get is there on the site you listed here at the top of the thread. It’s a free site that will stay up just like it is for the foreseeable future. Things I’d recommend at this point:
– Delete “The Journey Begins” post
– Add photos back in if you still have access to them (your SQL file didn’t have them)
– Style up the blog the way you like using My Site > DesignIf you want to make the site private, you can do that too. Just be sure you stay on top of keeping your contact info up to date if your email address changes, etc, so you won’t lose account access should you ever need to reset your password.

Oh, noting too, unless the name fs758934554.wordpress.com means something to you, you’re welcome to change the address to something more memorable if you’d like.
