Please Help! Display and Replies Going Wrong..

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t want any comments and have unchecked all boxes under ‘Discussions’. Yet, users still seem to have the option to leave a reply to my posts. How do I stop this…have spent ages on trying to find a solution.

Also, my blog format has changed. I have visited it today only to find that my theme is showing my posts in a list form, as opposed to my chosen grid style. Also, my 4 widget areas at the bottom of my page have been squashed into 2. When I go to settings; all is as it should be but doesn’t correspond to what is actually displaying. Help?!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just seen that it displays correctly on Chrome but not on Safari, despite clearing caches etc..?

  • Hi there. Disabling comments under Settings ->Discussion only applies to new posts, but for already published posts you’ll need to disable comments one by one. You can do so by going to Posts ->All Posts and clicking on the Quick Edit link. Uncheck the box that says allow comments and update. Same for pages.

As for the display issues, it could be that your browser window in Safari is smaller than your browser window in Chrome. On smaller displays your theme reacts as you describe here, and if you view it in Chrome you should get the same effect by simply making the window smaller. Try zooming out in Safari (and also make sure your browser window is maximised) and see if that causes your display to change.

Amazing! I was started to get really frustrated by these things…it’s been a real learning curve on here. What you suggested works perfectly and I really appreciate your time and advice. Thanks again!

  • You’re very welcome :)

If you haven’t yet, you might want to work through the “Learn WordPress” support doc (http://learn.wordpress.com/) and the “Video Quick Start” tutorial (http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/). It covers all the basics you need to know and makes the learning curve a bit gentler.

Ah! Will do. I watched the one specifically for the theme I purchased, but this generic one is a must also. Thanks again and have a good weekend.
