Please help! Featured images not displaying
-
The blog I am having trouble with is: https://inkslingeretc.wordpress.com/
I can’t seem to get featured images to display on blog posts or pages. My theme definitely supports them and I’ve tried many different size images to see if this makes a difference. I tried a different theme and featured images display correctly, so I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the theme I am using.
I also would like to know if it’s possible to centre images that have been added via a url. I asked in the forum a while ago but no one has got back to me.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Ruth. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi timethief,
So sorry, I forgot I set my blog to private! I’ll put it back to public now.
Thanks, R -
From the sketch theme page:
Featured Images
Featured Images are important in Sketch. You can choose one of three aspect ratios, landscape (4:3), portrait (3:4), and square (1:1) in the Customizer under the Portfolio section.Regardless of which ratio you choose, featured images work best when they are at least 800 px wide. The optimal image sizes for each ratio are:
Landscape: at least 800 x 600 pixels
Portrait: at least 800 x 1067 pixels
Square: at least 800 x 800 pixels
Featured images appear in several places, including archive pages, the portfolio page template, and with portfolio shortcodes, so don’t forget to add one!Make sure that your blog is set up to allow featured images to appear. You haven’t assigned a post page for your blog yet in case that is where you want to see your featured images.
I also would like to know if it’s possible to centre images that have been added via a url. I asked in the forum a while ago but no one has got back to me.
Try

[embed]image URL[/embed]
in the text edit portion of your post and page edits to center your embedded images.Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Hi darnelldibbles,
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my message.
I’ve been moving things about a bit so hadn’t set a page for my blog posts to appear under yet. I’ve just gone on and set it to ‘Latest’ and I’ve now noticed that the featured image is displaying for my ‘Test’ blog post. However, when I look at the same blog post in another area of the site (under the menu heading ‘Test 1’ – the featured image doesn’t show up.
When you say: “Make sure that your blog is set up to allow featured images to appear.” – I just assumed it was set up to allow them. Is there a way I can check this?
I’ve just tried that code to centre images and it has worked perfectly – thank you!
Many thanks again,
Ruth

Hi there,
When you say: “Make sure that your blog is set up to allow featured images to appear.” – I just assumed it was set up to allow them. Is there a way I can check this?
Depending on the theme, you would need to establish a post page in order to see the featured images.
You still have that test page available? I cannot find it under your dashboard. Let me know – I would like to take a look at it to make sure that everything looks good on my end.
Thanks!

Hi,
Yes, the post is called ‘Test’ and is under the heading ‘Test 1’ on the menu bar. I’ve set a featured image but it doesn’t seem to be appearing.
Thanks -
Hey there,
I see that it is working now that you have assigned a post page. You can see the featured image on the Test page under Latest:
https://inkslingeretc.wordpress.com/latest/
You’ll see the featured image on all your posts from the post page.
Thanks!

Hi Darnell, is there a reason why the featured image will display on the featured posts page but not when I want to view the post in another section of the site?
I may wish to keep the blog post where it is under the Test 1 heading but the featured image won’t appear.

It sounds like you want a featured header image on your pages – your current theme does not support featured header images.
Here are the list of themes that support featured header images:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/featured-image-header/
Alternately, you can insert the image from the media player at the top of each page with the featured image.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
