Please help – Having problems with site redirect and moveing followers

    Hi,

Please forgive me if my questions are a bit stupid but I really don’t have a clue what I am doing.

I have recently moved from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and I am having a few issues that I would really appreciate some help with:

    1. I purchased a domain name for my wordpress.com blog a month or two ago, I wanted to keep the same domain name for my wordpress.org blog and so I changed the nameservers on the domain. This seemed to work. However, I now want to purchase the site redirect upgrade but it wont let me. I get the message ‘A domain mapping already exists for that host. You do not need to buy a site redirect if you already have a domain mapping’. Is this happening because it is the same URL? I do need site redirect because none of my links are working.

    2. Is it possible to move my followers and stats over to my new blog?

Any help will be greatly appreciated as I am really starting to stress out over all of this.

    Many thanks!
    JJ

    1. As you already updated the nameservers you do not need a site redirect upgrade.

    2. Provided you install and activate the Jetpack plugin http://jetpack.meStaff can transfer your subscribers and your stats for you. I tagged this thread for their assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your help.

    1. That is what I originally thought but I know that none of the links to my site seem to be working. For example if I search for one of my blog posts on Google and then click the link I just get a message saying ‘Not found’. Could there be some other reason for this?

    2. Thankyou!

    JJ

Provided you did not change your permalink structure the links will not be broken. However, If you do choose a different permalink structure on the self hosted blog then every link will be broken.

Ok Thanks. I don’t think that I changed my permalink structure. How would I know if I did and would I be able to change it back again?

This is an example below the permalink structure of a post .ink on a free hosted wordpress.com blog:

I see… I think mine look like that except they are missing the http:// part

But I think the permalinks are the same on the new blog as they were on the old blog

The http:// part is what creates and active link. Without it there is no link.

    Hi,
Thanks for all your help. I think I have fixed the problem with the links now

That’s good news. Thanks for sharing it and best wishes with your new site.
