Please help! I Can’t Enable Classic Editor!
-
Feeling like finally having an active blog on WordPress again, I decided to go ahead and start editing my site, add pages and the like, and slowly getting to work building thigns up with new content.
Problem is, however, I am instantly confronted with the and terrible editor here on WordPress. It’s completely inaccessible with any of the screen readers I use. So, taking a few moments to try and see if I can find a way to switch editors back to the classic one, all I can seem to find is a way to change it for custom hosted sites with wordpress org, not blogs hosted on wordpress.com – Am I missing something? Is there any way to switch back to the new editor at all? Are we going to be forced to use this terrible and completely inaccessible piece of junk that is the new and so called improved editor? Or am I just going to have to give up using WordPress at all because it’s just becoming more and more inaccessible to me and mine?
Please help! my blog is http://www.abrighidinebard.wordpress.com

Hi there,
I just enabled the Classic editor for
abrighidinebard.wordpress.com, so that should be what you see now when you go to edit your pages from now on.If you have any other questions, let us know.
Thanks,

Oh, wow, I didn’t think it could be that easy. Thank you. Will the classic editor remain there moving forward or will the terrible new editor end up replacing it at some point?
-
@abrighidinebard maintaining two editors indefinitely would be very difficult, but we aren’t getting rid of Classic anytime soon.
Hopefully by the time it’s ready to be retired, the new editor will be more palatable for you.

Sorry to be a pain but could you also enable class editor on this blog instead? http://www.blindbrighidinebard.home.blog – When did WordPress switch it’s standard free domain name to attach blogs to? Anyway, I plan on using that blog name instead, moving forward, so having classic editor on there instead would help! Thank you!

Hi can you enable the classic editor for me too ? I just waste one hour trying to get it back.
What does the menu item “back to classic editor” exactly mean ? One thing is sure, it DOES NOT activate classic editor.
my blog: mabatim.info (hakeshet.wordpress.com)Thanks a lot for your help

Okay, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to ask for help to change the editor again but hopefully this will be the last time. I apologize for being annoying. I wish the ability to change the editor was easy to find so I wouldn’t have to bother you so much with it. site is http://www.suilebride.home.blog Thank you for making my life on WordPress so much easier and better!

If you click that “three dots” menu at the top-right when writing your post, you’ll find the option to switch back at the bottom: https://cld.wthms.co/zbgzJa
One thing to keep in mind though, the Classic Editor will likely be replaced eventually. Because of this, I generally recommend sticking with the new editor, but using the Classic Block as desired: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/

Yeah, I tried to switch it that way and it’s not allowing me to do it with my screen reader.
Yeah, well, the new version isn’t accessible enough for me to even try it or attempt to stick with it enough to work it out. It completely confuses my current screen reader. I might give it a go if and/or when they add a bit more accessible to this atrocious new editor they forced upon us all. Worst mistake WordPress has made in my opinion.

Thanks! And no worries, I understand. Look, I get it, they’re trying with this new thing. But they got a good way to go on the accessibility side of things before a lot of people in the various parts of the disabled community, not just the blind part of it, are willing to really give Gutenberg a chance. Hopefully it will improved to the point one day when all of us can embrace and use it fairly well. I mean, I for one don’t want to have to leave WordPress behind. I love this site, have done so for years, and would not want to make a site with any other platform than this one. But time will tell, one way or another. At least we can still use the classic version for now.

I totally understand. We’re making improvements to it almost every day now, and accessibility improvements are definitely on the menu. Maybe try again in a few months?
