Please help – I have run out of image storage space on my free wordpress site

    Hi,

I’ve run out of storage space on my free wordpress site.

I don’t want to delete images from my library as I understand then they will be lost from the website itself!

I’ve read up about this and thought using shortpixel may help, but I can’t install a plugin on a free site.

I’d really appreciate help as to the best way forward to condense the images in my library and ensure those I use in future are condensed so I have more library space.

Or other ideas for the best way forward?

Thank you so much for your help.

    Best wishes,
    Emma.

Some info about image optimization, https://wordpress.com/support/media/image-optimization/.
If you need more storage space, you must upgrade to a paid plan, https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Thanks – I’m not keen to upgrade to a paid plan because, apart from other things, I have the website address set up now and so do not want to change it.
Is there any other way to sort this so I can continue using the site?
    Thank you again,

I’ve tried to follow the instructions in the link above for image optimisation, but I can’t ‘scale’ the images.
Thank you for your advice, in advance.

I made a lesser topical blog and it has few images. I put new images there then add the image url to the other blog and the images post fine.
In add media page you select “add url”.

Thanks Flying cuttlefish – so do you mean that your lesser blog is just for you, and you put images there, then the images load as normal on your main blog, so there’s no difference in the look and performance of your main blog? Thank you for your help.

    Hi again, Flying cuttlefish,

I’ve tried what i think you mean but the images don’t come out sized right –

please would you explain how you copy the URL and transfer it, and if you have to manually put in the image width and height dimensions in the right hand block settings column on the main blog?

    Thank you!
