PLEASE HELP, I screwed up somehow

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to change my blog URL chashopkins.wordpress.com to jackbait.wordpress.com but then changed my mind. So then I had both URLs and wanted to get rid of jackbait so I deleted it. The email confirmation only mentioned jackbait.wordpress.com so I confirmed …

Now my original chashopkins URL is empty! This is a total disaster. Please please please tell me this is a horrible system mistake and it can be recovered.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry to hear that… This is the proper way of changing a blog address.

Once a URL is deleted, it is gone forever.

I did follow the process, my mistake was being tired, changing my mind and not thinking through the consequencess. Oh well, lesson learned the very very hard way.

I flagged this for staff. They may be able to do something, but don’t hold your breath. The URL changing procedure CONSTANTLY causes this issue. CONSTANTLY. There’s clearly a problem with the process. I wish the abandoned URL went into limbo like spam and was recoverable for two weeks after the change, because we see so many people in your position.

Thanks, I can’t escape from the fact that it was my own stupid fault but I agree that a 2 week limbo would be a good idea. My mistake, I think, was that the new URL was the result of moved content, not copied content, so when I changed my mind and deleted the new URL I lost everything.

That’s my assumption. The odd thing is that when I created the second URL, the content was posted against both and my tired coffee crash mind thought I could just delete the new one and all would be as before :-(

    Hi there!

My mistake, I think, was that the new URL was the result of moved content, not copied content, so when I changed my mind and deleted the new URL I lost everything.

You’d be correct here. When you change the address of your site, all of your content is moved, not copied. Sometimes it can take a few hours to completely move over though so it may look like you have content in both places for a little while.

I’ll follow up with you via email about this. Please respond there!
