PLEASE HELP! Illegitimate/illegal foreign posts invading my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear WordPress,

Please help me. I would like to know why I am always getting these illegal and illegitimate posts, like the one forwarded below, on my WordPress blog?

It is very frustrating to say the least as I am sure you will agree. I have no idea where these foreign language posts are coming from. I have already updated my password for signing in and no one else could possibly know what my password is.

However, even after changing my password, the problem still persists with these weird, strange posts invading my blog with no apparent or logical access to it. I only access or sign in to my WordPress account from home as well.

I also went into my blog account and eliminated any social media connections that I had normally used for auto-posting on my other social media accounts, just in case that was some type of hacked access being used. Still no success.

I am at a loss and don’t know how to resolve this headache so I am writing to you for help from your tech team. Where are they coming from? How could it be happening?

As of today, two more illegal foreign posts have been put on my blog including the one below and my blog subscribers are now wondering if I am insane as they are just as confused as I am.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,
    Richard Smith

Who has access to your log-in information and/or email address?

Did you use the same password for your email account and your blog?

Are you sharing log-in information with anyone or leaving it where anyone can locate it?

Are you remaining logged in on your computer so anyone can come along and access your blog through it?

Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that’s how many hackers gain access to blogs.

Then read this please knowing that blogs don’t get hacked when security protocols are followed. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

    1. If you can log-in go here > Users > All Users and delete any user that does not belong there.

    2. Disable post by email > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

    3. Disable post by voice > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-voice/

    4. Change your blog password to a very difficult one > http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password

    5. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.

I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

  • That was sent to your Post by Email address.

If you saved that address in your email contacts, it’s possible that a virus/malware spam could have taken it (along with the others), or that an automated emailer simply found it while trying random addresses.

You can generate a new Post by Email address by following the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

Thanks for the advice. All these steps have been followed. Let’s see what happens from here. I still want this looked into further. Thank you for tagging this thread for a staff follow up.

I would appreciate feedback from others as well.

  • The posts were definitely sent to your Post by Email address, there really isn’t more to look into, that’s how it happened.
