Please help me! I'm in over my head and need to quit WordPress!

I thought I was signing up for something free. I did not realize there was a trial period or that I would be charged. Now I see a charge on my checking account for $39.++ I am evidently in over my head here, and need some help backing out! Can you help me cancel whatever I signed up for that is resulting in charges to my account, whether it is Bluehost or WordPress, or ??? I just want to cancel the blow entirely and stop any further involvement with WordPress or Bluehost (whatever that is). Please Help!

If you are hosted on Bluehost you’ll need to contact them to cancel whatever plan you may have signed on for. See their support page here: https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help.
They’re separate from WordPress.com and the folks here unfortunately won’t be able help cancel plans there. You can see more about the difference here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/.
There are several plans here at WordPress.com, and the basic one is indeed free. It’s the simplest plan to use and comes with everything needed for a simple site online. See here for the different plans: https://store.wordpress.com/plans/.
After you cancel your Bluehost plan if you would still like a blog you can sign up for the free plan on that page.
