When you allow your domain expire, it then goes through a process that can take several months to complete described at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/. If you are in the grace period you will not have to agree to pay a redemption fee set by the domain name registrar that wordpress.COM staff cannot waive. Otherwise if you want Staff to try to recover the domain for you then you will have to agree to pay the redemption fee.

I’ve tagged this thread in the sidebar with modlook for Staff attention.

If you’re logged into the account that is associated with your expired domain, they will look up its status and get in touch with details.

If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into the associated account, and provide the domain URL here.

    Hi nojunkinmouth,

dontputjunkinyourmouth.org expired on 2017-01-01. It was possible to recover the domain for some weeks after its expiration — but due to the length of time that has passed this is no longer possible.

If a domain is not redeemed by the original registrant and is not purchased at auction, it is returned to the pool of available domain names and can be registered again on a first-come, first-served basis.

The domain is currently available so if you want to use it, I’d recommend registering it as soon as you can.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I definitely want to restore the site. And I agree to any charges. Bill

    Hi nojunkinmouth,

We can’t restore the domain at this stage but you can re-register it. Custom domains are now a feature of paid plans :

    https://wordpress.com/plans/

Once you have chosen a plan, the domain can be added from your Domains page:

    https://wordpress.com/domains/add/

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess what I want is to not only re-register the domain, but to then restore the old content. Is that possible or not? Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi nojunkinmouth,

When the domain expired, your site reverted back to its free WordPress.com address (dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com). None of the content was removed.

Once the domain has been connected back to that site, visitors will be able to see the original content.

I’ve restored the URL and paid for the site again, but it isn’t coming up

When did you repurchase the upgrade please?

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. Hi nojunkinmouth,

I’ve restored the URL and paid for the site again, but it isn’t coming up

It looks like you registered the domain using a different account this time —
    williamweis.

dontputjunkinyourmouth.org was previously mapped to dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com (has content).

It is now mapped to dontputjunkinyourmouthorg.wordpress.com (contains no content).

Do you want to use the domain for dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com?

Let me know and we’ll go from there.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I want the domain that restores my old blog to be functioning correctly.
I don’t understand all the mapping and domain language but I think you must know how to link them together.
I would very much appreciate it if you can get it connected correctly.
Please feel free to change my application to whatever it needs to be to link them up.
    Thanks so much.

    Hi williamweis,

I don’t understand all the mapping and domain language but I think you must know how to link them together.

That’s okay, I can help you out.

At the moment, the site you want to use the domain on is owned by nojunkinmouth. The plan and domain are owned by williamweis. Ideally, the upgrades would be owned by the same account that owns dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com (nojunkinmouth).

What I propose is transferring ownership of the upgrades from williamweis to your nojunkinmouth account.

You will need to transfer the domain as this is something that can only be done from within your williamweis account. Once you’ve done that I can move the plan over for you and connect it to dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com.

If you are happy to go ahead, please transfer ownership of the domain to nojunkinmouth using these steps:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

Let me know how you get on.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes this was a good idea.
I was able to add nojunkinmouth as admin
I then transferred the domain to nojunkinmouth my old web account.
I am unsure about the registrar questions that started coming in.
but nojunkinmouth (bill weis) should be the administrator now.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi williamweis,

Thanks for doing that. I’ve transferred the plan over to nojunkinmouth and the domain now points to dontputjunkinyourmouth.wordpress.com.

The last step is to verify the domain. You should have received an ICANN verification email asking you to verify your contact information. Please search your spam and junk folders for an email from (email visible only to moderators and staff).

The email will be delivered to the email address you entered when registering your domain. You can view or edit this address in the Contacts and Privacy section at this link:

    https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/

Come back to me if you have any problems finding the email.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Thanks so much for all your help.
I think I have verified the information now.
I was confused because there were two different accounts open and I didn’t know which verification was which.
I can access both email accounts that are on the two accounts.
    thanks again.
I see that everything is now in the same account.
    bill

    Hi Bill,

Great, I’m pleased to hear you’re all sorted. I’ve checked your domain and it is now showing as verified, so there is nothing more you need to do there.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

Today I tried to post 2 blog entries and they both went to the wrong URL — I expected the posts to be to my purchased site. Not the one URL that has WorkPress on it. Why aren’t my posts going to: http://www.Dontputjunkinyourmouth.org

The whole point of all this was to restore my old blog — along with its 49 posts. And I want my new posts going on that.

  • Hi there,

Before you started writing the posts, did you make sure that you were on the correct site’s dashboard? You have multiple sites on your account, so when you click on My Sites, make sure what site’s title is showing at the top of the menu. That’s the site to which your post will be published.

You can switch to a different site by clicking the Switch Site link at the top, and selecting the site you want.

If you create post via the Write Now button in the top bar it will also give you a drop-down of the sites in your account so you can pick the correct one.
