Please help me turn on comments back on
-
Hi there, I don’t know why or how, but somehow, mysteriously my “Comments” on new posts have been turned off. I used support DB and followed directions and went into the individual post and couldn’t find the “discussion module”. I think it used to be where the “Writing Helper” now is. I went into Discussion/Settings too, and the “Allow Poeple to post Comments on new articls” box are selected, so I’m plum out of ideas as to how to turn my Commnets back on. I even went into old posts with comments to see if I could find the settings there, but alas, no joy. Please please please help me. I’m using Koi theme and never had probs before.
Thanks so much! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

“Send Trackbacks”
Discussion
__Allow comments.
__Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.
Click “Save Changes” -
Thanks foryour help, but I don’t have that on my post draft page. I only have
Likes and Shares
Writing Helper
that’s all .. ???? I remember having a discussion module a while ago but now it’s gone??? Any ideas? Is it in another setting or something? -
Please edit the draft post post and look below it and you will find the Discussion module I pointed to in the draft post below the editor box.

Thanks so much for your help. I could only find this Ping Back and Comments in the Qucik Edit NOT the regular edit mode. Very strange. I have no idea why, but thank you for sharing that screen shot so I could see the Comments Ping back lines in the quick edit mode. I appreciate your help!

Yay! As they say pictures are worth a thousand words. I am so happy to hear you could find the Discussion module this using “quick edit” and resolve this issue. Happy blogging! :)

I’m using theme 2010. I would like to disable comments. Can you show me how to do that?
Thank you so much!!!
I’ve tried several ways, but it still appears on the screen. Help! -
Comments are enabled on new WordPress.com blog posts by default. To change this option for posts/pages you create in the future, look at the following options on the Settings > Discussion
This is the support doc link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/
We can disable and enable comments on individual posts and pages. This is not retroactive. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/ -
I’ve been to both locations and followed directions. Unfortunately, there is no Allow Comments box to check on any of these pages–at least that I could see.
Any suggestions? I know it can be done, but my friend doesn’t remember how she did it.
Thanks! I’m using the 2010 theme.

Did you look closely at the Discussion module below the editor box?

__Allow comments.
__Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page. -
Perhaps I’m not on the correct page. On the dashboard, I go to Settings, and click on Discussion. I set it for no new posts. Is this where the Comments On option should appear?
There is no Writing Helper or Send Trackbacks on the page.
I’ve also gone to Dashboard, Posts, and placed all exiting posts in the trash.
The comments window still appears. Should I be looking elsewhere?
thank you!!! -
Discussion Page and Discussion Module are not the same thing. The Discussion Page here > Settings > Discussion is for setting up defaults settings. If you change those settings they are not retroactive. We can enable or disable and thereby overide the default settings on any individual post or page.
I think the easiest way to do this is so you can witness the Discussion module that appears under the editor box in every post and every page we create by simply clicking “new post”. You can send it to the Trash after you use it to locate the Discussion module.
Create a new post. Look closely at the Discussion module below the editor box?
Editor box
Writing Helper
Send Trackbacks
Discussion
__Allow comments.
__Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.Once you have done that then you will know where that Discussion Module is.

Hi there. Just wanted to share that when I create a new post, I no longer have the Discussion
__Allow comments.
__Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.beneath the other sections. It’s GONE! Have no idea why, but the only way I was able to change turn my Comment field back on in the post I had yesterday was to go into “Quick Edit” mode and use the comments check boxes on the right of the page. It seems that when WP added the Writing Helper, this is when the comments preferences dissappeared. I wonder if this is only happenign to a few folks? I also wonder if it’s based on the theme we’re using?
At any rate, thanks to Timethief for helping me figure out this shortcut to change my comment preference. To Benton, I sure hope this helps you figure it out.

@monkeychimonkeydo
Hello again. This is so weird. I can see
Discussion
__Allow comments.
__Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page
on both of my blogs but you two can’t. That makes no sense. I think it ought to be reported to Staff. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ -
Hurrah! I finally figured it out. Here’s how.
Go to the pages editing link on the dashboard. I then clicked on each page separately and did the following.
I made sure that Discussion was activated in the Screen Options section at the top. Then Discussion appeared below the page editing section, I opened discussion and unselected “allow comments.”
Finally it worked. I think that perhaps the 2010 theme has a different layout or different titles for some of their functions from earlier themes. At any rate, it’s done.
Once I got to the page editing screen, everything appeared as the support sections described. Thank you for your patience!

@bentonculture & monkeychimonkeydoyou
This is super news. Thank goodness for monkeychimonkeydoyou’s help. I’m so relieved to hear you figured out how to do this. I’m bookmarking this thread so the next blogger who posts benefits from your struggles & solution. Good on you both. :) -
The nice part is that “Comments Off” did not appear on the web pages afterwards. That is a nice touch.
