(1) Hire a webhost.

(4) Upload plugins of your choice via FTP.

(5) Export the contents of your wordpress.com out into an XML file to your desktop.
(6) Export your Links (blogroll) out into a file on your desktop.
(7) Import the XML file containing your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags into your new wordpress.org blog.
(8) Import the Link file into your new wordpress.com blog. -
SNAP! Replace (8) above with >
(8) Import the Link file into your new wordpress. org blog.
(9) Read the first 5 paragraphs here so you understand the situation regarding links and PageRank. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/06/26/how-and-why-to-get-your-own-domain/
(10) If you want your readers to experience a seamless transfer between the URLs from the root blog (wordpress.com) to the new blog purchase domain mapping (302 temporary redirect) http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/redirecting-your-blog/ -

When your move is completed change the visibility of the wordpress.com blog to “private” and keep it as a back-up blog. You can use the export function on your wordpress.org blog to periodically export an XML file from the new blog and then use the import function on the wordpress.com root blog to maintain current a backup.
Have a new blog launch party! :)

If I enter more than 2 links my comments become “invisible”. Sometimes they become invisible when I only enter 1 link. In a couple of cases I reported to Staff my comments with no links at all in them became invisible. So even though I don’t like chopping my comments up into hunks, I have employed this coping strategy of multiple postings to escape having my comments become invisible.

@timethief In the past, your comments were getting marked as spam when you had too many links in them (which is the expected behavior). Breaking up plain text comments is not necessary. Too many links per reply is a red flag for spam. Perhaps fewer links per reply are needed in general?

You’re right my 4th comment above could have been combined with the 5th one.

@tt-The other thing that Staff have mentioned in the past was the “repeatedly rapid response” by one user which also seemed to trigger the invisibility effect. So it’s a bit of a Catch-22. And, sometimes less is more. :)
@designsimply- my personal preference is to point users to related Support Docs or UGC if it can help clarify an issue. This means including links in replies. If you can give us a ballpark number of links per reply, that would certainly help.
And for the OP @leerob just to highlight the part you really need to know about moving your domain name purchased through WordPress.com to your own domain registrar (because it may have gotten buried with all this other discussion) http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar Everything else that timethief mentioned above applies. Good luck!
