PLEASE HELP MY MOST RECENT PUBLISHED POST HAS COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED.
-
I published a post on 04 April, no problems I received some comments, however I have come to look at my blog today and the post has completely disappeared from my site along with all the comments. Its gone from my most recent posts menu, when I search for it it doesn’t appear. The rest of the site seems to be fine, please can someone tell me what’s happened and how I get my most recent post back? Anyone?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to posts > all posts and see if it is there. Also look at the top of the listing of posts and see if there is a link there for “trash” and see if it is in the trash.
Are there any others with admin or editor privileges on your blog?

This happened to another thread – staff-blorbo found the Post somewhere (sorry can’t remember where) with a different name but almost all the text – might also have had something to do with revisions –
I will flag this and maybe he will see it

You may be able to recover a post revision. Go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of the post, click Edit and check the Post Revisions module for previous saved versions of the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
If you’re not seeing the Revisions module while on the editor screen, click Screen Options (top right corner of your Admin page) http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ to activate it. Then select the post and page modules to include them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules Then you ought to be able to go here > Dashboard > All Posts > Posts and locate the post and recover it from post revisions.
If you cannot locate the post for locating and restoring a post revision, and it’s not in your Trash folder http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/ then you will not be able to recover it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash
Did you create your post on the dashboard of your own blog?
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add NewOr did you create your post on the front page of WordPress.com?

Is this the thread you read? (though it’s about a missing January post, not so recent)

macmanx said this at the end of his comment:Did you write this post in one of our mobile apps?

You do good work @Tess – yes that is the one I was thinking of –
Thanks

Thank you for all of your replies, I am checking it out now. The post is not in trash. But there is a previous draft of the post in ‘all posts’ in my dashboard from way back on 18 March but I had updated the draft again since then before publishing on 4 April.
No one else has access to edit anything.
I also wondered if it had been removed by WP due to content, but have read the other thread and it seems that this would have been highly unlikely. It is odd that it was published for 2 days then suddenly disappeared though.
In answer to 1tess, yes I wrote the post on the WP app on my iPad but actually published it from the dashboard on the usual standard website, for some reason the Wp app lets me ‘update’ but not actually publish. (Unless that is me being technically inept which is highly likely). Maybe that is the issue.
I will go and see if I can restore the draft version and report back.
Presumably the comments would not return with the post though? -
And thank you for the advice timethief I will definitely be using an offline blog editor in future.
-
Ok I have restored the post back from drafts and it has included the comments BUT it has posted it on 18 March date (the draft was dated 18 March).
Is there a way I can change the date as it now puts all the rest of my posts out of sync?
Do I just take it down and re-schedule the post? Can I do that?
So sorry for ridiculously stupid questions but I am actually THAT stupid.
Thank you for your help. -
-
Sure, just edit the post in question and you can adjust the date via the Publish box to the right.
By any chance, were you using one of the mobile apps?
-
Thank you macmanx, yes I had originally drafted the post in the WP iPad app and updated it there. I actually published it through the normal website though as it is difficult to publish on the mobile app I find. Is that the problem? That it was through a mobile app?
-
The problem was more than likely the Draft on the iPad app. An attempt to auto-save the Draft possibly failed, and the next time it succeeded, it handily saved over the existing Published post with whatever it was trying to auto-save way back when.
Make sure that you’re running version 3.5.2 of the app. It completely disables auto-save in the app, so this won’t happen again.
