PLEASE help – my website was deleted by a con artist
-
Hi there. I was recently scammed by a fake website developer. I paid them quite a lot of money to design a website and to host it, yet then a few months later they deleted the site and disappeared. I’m currently taking him to court, but in the meantime, as a result, have lost one of my income streams, not to mention that the site was good for my mental health problems in that it helped me focus on something important to me. It now turns out that rather than hosting it through their own system, as I was promised, they simply used 123 Reg to host it. It was, however, run through WordPress, and all of the articles I wrote were done through WordPress. The website was http://www.vote-watch.co.uk. I’m desperate to try and get the files back so that I can set the website up again, and wondered if WordPress would still have backup files, and if so, how I go about obtaining them and getting the site back up and running. Thanks in advance to anyone who can kindly advise.

Hi there!
I’m sorry to hear that happened to you :(
Since your site was not hosted with WordPress.com (it was using the open-source WordPress software, from WordPress.org, but hosted with 123 Reg), you’ll want to reach out to them directly about it or write on the community forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
