Please help the dumb newbie. 2 hosting questions.

I’ve tried to answer my own questions and read until my eyes crossed, but I’m just not getting it. <clunks head on desk>
I bought a domain name at NameCheap: UglyAssOpinion.com
I bought 1 month’s hosting at NameCheap.
I started a blog on WordPress.Com: UglyAssOpinion.Wordpress.com
Here at WordPress.com, I paid for domain mapping. Followed the instructions, and my blog now shows up without ‘WordPress’ in the title.#1 Am I now being hosted by WordPress.com and able to let the NameCheap hosting expire, or have I only paid for the pointing and still need to keep the NameCheap hosting alive and well?
#2 If I am being hosted by WordPress, am I considered self hosted/upgraded and able to place ads, or is this not considered self hosted and ads are out of the question?
I’m sorry folks, I know the answers are already here somewhere, and I truly have tried to find them. Any help for the techno-loser would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Ugh. And then after all that explanation, I gave you the wrong site. If any admin reads this and looks up my account–it’s not Ugly Ass Opinion I was hosted with. The information in my question is correct except the site hosted was PaperweightProductions.com. UglyAssOpinion.com is a subdomain–I think.

#1 – Your host is wordpress.com, with the way you have things set up right now.
#2 – You have domain mapping, your blog here is not self-hosted and therefore, all restrictions on monetization and all ToS still apply. See the end of the link below for more:
If you moved your blog to namecheap hosting then you would be self-hosted. HTH

That does help, ellaella, thank you so much! I did read that page several times, but I wasn’t clear if Domain Mapping meant I was actually hosted here, or just paying to have the current host point the name here. (I was the last person on earth to learn how to set the clock on my VCR–which I still own, btw–can you tell? Thank you again for your kind help.

I’m a newbie, too, and I am technologically challenged! So I’ll be asking lots of questions. It’s so much to take in, isn’t it?

fayevorite – It is, but the FAQ will be an enormous help for you. Anytime you’ve got a question, just start a thread. Welcome to WordPress.
