Please help with advice

    Goal: to get ‘billtorcaso.org’ registered with WordPress under my existing $4/month plan.

    1) I own the domain ‘billtorcaso.org’, and have owned it for many years.
    2) ‘billtorcaso.org’ is currently registered with Route53 within AWS
    3) I want to abandon AWS – it is too hard!
    4) I have created a free site, ‘billtorcasowpress.wordpress.com’. I have a WordPress account to access it. This site was a proof-of-concept and both the sitename and the site contents are not important to me now.
    5) I decided to commit to WordPress, and created a $4/month plan with site ‘torcasobill.org’

    Question: do I have two WordPress.com accounts, each with one site? Or do I have one WordPress.com account, with two sites?

    I want to arrange things so that:

    — ‘billtorcaso.org’ domain is registered with WordPress, and points to the site I get with my $4/month plan.

    — ‘torcasobill.org’ domain name could be destroyed or could be a synonym for billtorcaso.org. I want to pay for only one name and I want that name to be ‘billtorcaso.org’.

    Note: my site in AWS Route53 is unlocked. I can begin to transfer ‘billtorcaso.org’ to WordPress hosting at any time.

    — ‘billtorcasowp.wordpress.com’ is destroyed. I believe I can do that by myself, but I want to get advice from you first.

    Hi Bill,

    Let’s see if we can straighten this out for you:

    Question: do I have two WordPress.com accounts, each with one site? Or do I have one WordPress.com account, with two sites?

    From the info you’ve provided here, I only know of this billtorcasowpress site you’re using to post here, and this account currently owns one site, http://billtorcasowpress.wordpress.com/.

    I want to arrange things so that:

    — ‘billtorcaso.org’ domain is registered with WordPress, and points to the site I get with my $4/month plan.

    For that you’ll first need a free WordPress.com address. You can use your existing address, http://billtorcasowpress.wordpress.com/, and upgrade that site, or you can create a brand new site by going to https://wordpress.com/start/site/

    Go to My Site ->Plans and buy the plan you want, then go to My Site ->Manage ->Domains to add a domain transfer upgrade for your domain (if you create a new site you can buy a plan and start a domain transfer during the site creation process). One domain transfer is included for free with your plan.

    — ‘billtorcasowp.wordpress.com’ is destroyed. I believe I can do that by myself, but I want to get advice from you first.

    If you no longer want that site, you can delete it at My Site ->Manage ->Settings, but it doesn’t look like you’ve really done anything with that yet, and given that you will still need a free WordPress.com URL regardless of whether or not you add your own domain, you might as well just continue with that site.

    Once you add your domain, visitors to your site will not see the billtorcasowp.wordpress.com address, they’ll only see your domain. But the free address will always continue to exist in the background.

    Thanks for your reply and suggestions!

    I would like to wipe out everything and begin again – even if I have to pay a second $4/month fee.

    How do I:

    1) destroy my first wordpress user billtorcaso and all associated sites and resources. (I especially want to get rid of billtorcasowpress.wordpress.com)

    2) continue to use my second wordpress user “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” and its site under the $4/month plan

    —— arrange a DNS Domain Registration transfer from Route53 for name “billtorcaso.org” to the name of my site from step #2

    These have all been newbie mistakes — sorry!

    To do that you must

    1. Log out of your @billtorcasowpress account
    2. Log in as @billtorcaso
    3. Visit this page to close your account: https://wordpress.com/me/account/close

    Note: You must be sure to log out as @billtorcasowpress first. If you visit that page link while logged in as @billtorcasowpress then that is the account you will delete (and @billtorcaso will remain active)

    To do that you can add the Personal plan to your account here and complete the purchase:

    Once the upgrade is added to your account, let us know and we can walk you through how to connect billtorcaso.org.
