Please help with code

  • Unknown's avatar

    I just changed my avatar on my blog that I use for other blogs to past on their blog and link to me. You can view it half way done on my side bar.

    The problem is that I’m getting a “?” near the image. Here’s what I have in my widget for the icon on top and the code in the field on the bottom:

    <img src="http://s518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/?action=view&amp;current=Tryingtobegreenericonspirals1.png"><img src="http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/Tryingtobegreenericonspirals1.png" border="0" alt="Trying To Be Greener">

    [sourcecode language='html']<a href="http://tryingtobegreener.wordpress.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/Tryingtobegreenericonspirals1.png" border="0" alt="Trying To Be Greener"></a>[/sourcecode]

    Can anyone help me with what I did wrong so I can get rid of that “?”

    Thank you!

    I don’t see the “?”

  • Unknown's avatar

    I see it to the bottom left corner of the avatar icon. You really don’t see it? Why do I?

  • Unknown's avatar

    You must be using IE. I’m on Firefox and no, I don’t see it. But when I switch to IE7, I see a white box with a red X in it. I suspect it has to do with the fact that you have the image listed twice.

    From looking at the photobucket page http://s518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/ that first image source you have doesn’t exist. Or at least that’s what I get when I tried to get to the link directly by copying it.

    When I copy the code in the field box, past it in the widget that shows all the square icon image links on my sidebar, and click on it (it shows up at this point like the avatar), it links to my blog. So it works as I want it to, it just seems to have that “?” next to the icon in the widget with the avatar near the code in the field. I”m using Safari – maybe that’s the trouble?

    Thanks for working with me on this Vivianpaige!

    But you have two different image codes in there, and only one image on the blog. The box that I mentioned with the red x must be showing as a “?” in Safari. That is a link that doesn’t work. Try this:

    <img src="http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/Tryingtobegreenericonspirals1.png" border="0" alt="Trying To Be Greener">

    Vivanpaige,
    What you gave me seems to be the same as what I have in both the codes in the fields in my top entry here on this thread. I’m not sure what I should change.

    The top code shows the image, the bottom one shows the code within the field box. The code in the field box seems to work as a link to my site when you use it in a widget (In a widget, it show up looking like the avatar icon but is the link to my blog). Am I making sense? I hope I’m confusing you.

  • Unknown's avatar

    No, it’s not the same and if you had pasted it into the text widget, you would have seen the difference. I don’t think you are following what I’ve said: you’ve got two sets of img src codes in that first box. The first one is wrong and does not link to an image, the second one appears to the be correct link to the image.

    Note the subtle differences between the img src links – one starts with s518 and the other starts with i518.

    I see the questionmark is still firmly in place!

    tryingtobegreener, it’s exactly as Vivian says. You must simply remove all this:
    <img src="http://s518.photobucket.com/albums/u342/tryingtobegreener/?action=view&amp;current=Tryingtobegreenericonspirals1.png">
    That’s the invalid (and redundant) part that produces the ‘no-image’ signs in the browsers. The rest is a correct, working, code for your image.

    That happened because you mistakenly copied what photobucket calls “HTML Code”. You should have copied the “Direct Link” and used it like that:
    <img src="DIRECT_LINK_HERE"></a>

    (And why do you upload your images in photobucket instead of your own blog?)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks both Vivianpaige and panaghiotisadam! I fixed it as you said and it seems to be fixed :-)

    How would I upload this image from my own blog? Please, as you can see, I really need things spelled out, so if you can help, show me exactly what I should have for the code.

    Thanks again!

    If the image is in your computer, you go to the post editor, click “Add an Image” and upload it (in WP, that is). Once it’s uploaded, the uploader will give you its URL, which you can copy and use with the code I suggested above. Or you can temporarily insert the image in the post editor, edit it if necessary (by clicking on the image, then on the mountain icon that shows up), then switch to html, copy its whole code and paste it in the text widget.

    Thanks panaghiotisadam! I really appreciate the help from both of you! Have a great day :-)
