Please include changelogs when updating themes available for download

Not sure where to post this, but hoping this is the right place.

While I truly appreciate themes being updated, can you please make sure there is a changelog somewhere for what changes there are?

Getting a message if needed update child themes, without a changelog this involves comparing the old main theme to the updated version?

From what I gather there is a general update, because more themes are shown that they need updating, so a general message about what needs to be updated to theme users would be nice.

There is a link on the theme page with the Ascetica theme to see ‘a changelog’. Unfortunately that link does not appear to be working.
The link for the 2015 theme does work, but leads to a general wordpress.org page. From there their are links, but still not easy to figure out what changed.

A simple update has now become an afternoon chore (if I’m lucky).

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi there – For themes in the WordPress.org repository there is a way to see exactly what changes were made between versions in Trac, line by line. I can explain this method more fully once I’m sure what version of Ascetica you’re running.

If you downloaded Version 1.0.1. of Ascetica from WordPress.com, the changes related to escaping strings throughout the theme for security reasons. I don’t think anything there would have affected a child theme, because no structural HTML, classes, or IDs were changed.

  • While we do provide release notes when we update a theme, we’ve noticed they are not always getting into the theme’s readme.txt as they should – we are looking into that. Thanks for the heads-up.
