Please make the new editor recognize all my old tags.
-
The new editor will not show all my tags. Example: I have over time used 5 different tags with the letters “Toscan…” in them. When I use the old/classic editor and start typing, by the time I have Tos typed in, all of my tags with those letters have appeared. In the new editor, I had to type “Toscana rosso” all the way out, and it wanted to know if Toscana rosso should be ADDED.
This is not a question – it is a request that you upgrade the functionality of the new editor so we do not lose the good things about the old one.

Well, it’s not an “idea” so much as a tech support problem. The program is failing and needs to be repaired.
Also: When I went to the “support” link, all I found was this area. I will see if I can dig up the “ideas” place – but is there a “glitches and goofs” reporting place instead?
Thanks -
If you use the classic editor to create new posts at Dashboard > Posts > Add New then you won’t have this issue.

Yes, this is true. But I’m guessing that WP is heading towards eliminating that editor down the road, and I’d like them to be sure to have the new one functioning correctly first! Also, the new one seems nice, except for this glitch, so it would be great actually to be able to use it.

You should still be able to find all your tags and categories, just start typing the word in the Tag or Category text box and the options are generated. The first letter or two will give you an alphabetized list.

No way they are going to eliminate their baby after more than a year of Staff time and energy have gone into it. What they will eliminate eventually is the classic editor Tiny MCE ie. the one we have now on our dashboards. That’s the one they have already removed some of the functions that we used to have from like posting the from WORD button and the more colors functions. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/the-paste-as-word-button-has-been-removed-from-the-visual-editor?replies=5
Take a look at this whole section that did not exist before https://wordpress.com/ and take note of the new My Blogs page. When you do that you will see the writing on the wall.

ifmomsaysok: No, this is exactly what I’m describing that does NOT work. When I type some tags, they appear, but most of them do not. When I type Tosca… in the new editor, it finds nothing. In the classic editor, it finds all 5= five or six existing entries.
timethief: That is exactly what I was saying: it is true that the classic editor CAN find the tags, but I am worried that that does not help, b/c they will eliminate the classic editor down the road. Since the classic editor has a feature (actually being able to find existing tags) where the new editor is failing, it worries me that they will eliminate the classic version. This is the point of my query: PLEASE FIX the new editor – it doesn’t work right. It does not consistently find tags that clearly do exist. Is there a place to post glitches and failure modes for the new editor, or is this it? Do WP programmers actually read this section?

I reported the blog that’s spamming under this tag to Terms of Service Staff https://wordpress.com/tag/tosca/ I also tagged this thread for Support Staff attention.

timethief: thanks for tagging the thread for support staff attention. I appreciate it b/c I do not know how to contact them in any other way. Interesting that that fragment that is part of 5 of my own tags is being spammed – had not seen any of that myself, probably since my own tags don’t stop at the “a” :) Now I’ll wait to see if support staff contact me here or elsewhere about fixing the glitch in the new editor. Thanks.

Hi there,
Sorry for the trouble with those tags in the editor! I did some testing and found that only your 100 most-used tags are being suggested in the editor — your less-used tags won’t pop up there. I reported this to our team so they can take a closer look at that.
Thanks for letting us know about the issue. :)

Ah… that is strange. Glad the Powers That Be are looking into this. Good luck, berkeleybarb.

Hi there,
I got an update about this. Our team restricted the new editor to only the 100 most-used categories and tags, because when we previously tried to load all categories and tags it caused some problems with the amount of time it took for everything to load. We’re looking into solutions to that problem, but it’s a bit tricky and we don’t have a set timeline at this point for changing how that works in the new editor.
-
rachelmcr: Thanks for looking at this, and for the update. The timeline has to include at the very least “Retain the classic editor until this glitch in the new editor is repaired”!
In addition to the failure of most tags to pop up, the slider bar that shows the categories will show only 20 categories, not all of them (I have over 60). It comes to a screeching halt at “F” instead of showing all categories. The old editor shows all the categories using the slider bar. Is this a related issue? In the categories, however, if I start to type in the name of an existing category, the category comes up, even if the slider had refused to show it to me. The point here is to avoid adding categories (or tags) accidentally by slightly changing the name b/c I can’t actually see it.
