Please make wider themes!

There are only a couple themes that actually use the entire page width – why? What’s the point in wasting all the space? It’s difficult to post images and certain content when the post is only 5 inches wide. Make some wider themes!!

Have you looked at the FAQ on the image sizes for photos? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/

As I understand it, most themes are designed to be 800 px wide – and that’s a design standard.

Themes like Andreas08(or is it 09?) are great – they’re wide and have widget bars on both sides; there’s no wasted width. How come there aren’t more themes like that? Why is there a design standard for blogs?

I like to post other content – such as code samples – that doesn’t fit in the narrow width allowed for posts.

    CSS upgrade might answer that.

@a1979shakedown: I might be wrong, but I think most themes are kept within a reasonable limit because not everybody has large high-resolution screens. Also, many users don’t know how to handle images efficiently (I’ve seen posts with 5MB photos, fresh from the user’s digital camera): very wide themes might encourage posting very large images, making things difficult for those with a slow connection.

Now, themes like Andreas 09 are not wide, they are stretchable (“flexible width”, it’s called). And it’s true that they are a minority, but they are not “a couple”: they are 10, actually. There are also some themes which take better advantage of the available width by having a bottombar instead of a sidebar.

(By the way, you’ve got several posts with images that get cut by the right border of your main bar. Why don’t you downsize them a little?)

@babliciou5: CSS upgrade would answer many things!

@panaghiotisadam: Hmm…that makes sense, I guess I’d just like to see a combination of several themes. Like Andreas09 with a customizable header! As for the images – I have downsized them. I don’t want to downsize so much that you can’t even see the image! With images such as diagrams, I’d like the reader to be able to see the full diagram at a viewable size, rather than provide a thumbnail and make them open a tab/window to view the image.
