I get page-fulls of emails telling me “Please moderate” this post or that.nothing seems to happen when I ignore them. what am I supposed to do and does it really matter?

Does this happen when visitors comment on your blog? In that case, you can fine tune your settings if you go to Settings > Discussion. You can choose if you want people to be able to comment or not, if it needs approval and if you want to be emailed everytime someone comments on your blog.

thanks for commenting, but it’s nothing to do with reader comments, which I welcome by the way. Some of the posts I am asked to moderate are years old.+

I’ve added a modlook tag to this thread, so hopefully you’ll get some professionals to look at it.

I clicked on two of the “[zingcreed] please moderate” emails in my inbox and found there was no message but there was a sender’s address. It was “whois arin.net/rest/ip/192.0 10163” for one but the second one had a different ip number. For the record I don’t know anyone called Arin. I clicked on it and got a pageful of incomprehensible jargon in blue writing. Does this happen to everyone? What does it mean?

  • Thanks for tagging us, @jjberg83 :)

@zingcreed most of your unapproved comments are just pingbacks.

Let’s say you write one article (A). Then you write another article (B) that references article A with a link.

    You’ve already linked B to A.

A pingback automatically links A back to B, in the form of a comment. It’s so readers can easily find other articles that mention article A. Make sense? Usually it’s meant to link across two different sites, but it works on your own site as well.

You can read more about that here. Pingbacks can be deactivated if you don’t like them.

Since you have so many pingbacks and unmoderated comments, if you decide you want them approved or deleted all at once, let us know and we can help.

Thanks jjberg and supernovia. The fog is clearing and I’m no longer worried. at least it explains why I have more pingbacks than posts. I’ll think about it a bit more before I decide what to do.

  • No problem at all, @zingcreed . Cheers :)
