Please move my subscribers to my new self-hosted blog
-
Hi Happiness Engineers,
I’ve moved from a WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted .org blog.
From the threads I read, it seems I need to ask you to move my old subscribers (those receiving an email whenever I create a new post) to my new blog.
I’ve installed Jetpack on the new blog, and activated subscriptions.
Can you please move them for me?
Old blog: writingtraining.wordpress.com
New blog: magneto.net.au/blogI have a redirect in place for the old blog; I hope that doesn’t stop you working your magic.
Thanks,
Paul
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Paul,
I have transferred your subscribers as requested. Your subscribers can now be seen here:

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
Best,
Jeremey

Hi Jeremey,
Thanks for that, however something isn’t right. There are only 27 followers there, but before I transitioned my blog showed that we had something like 300-400.
How can I reconnect with those people?
Thanks,
Paul

P.S. Just to confirm: These 27 people will now receive an email whenever I create a new blog post on my self-hosted WordPress blog?

Hi Paul,
The follower count on WordPress.com includes Facebook and Twitter followers. Currently, you have 100 Facebook followers and 120 Twitter followers as indicated by your stats page here:
http://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=5049624&unit=1
I believe that is accounting for the discrepancy as transferring your followers does not account for Facebook or Twitter. You currently have 27 followers on your blog – 12 WordPress.com followers and 15 Email followers. The WordPress.com followers will still receive your new posts in their Reader. However, they will not receive new posts via email until they subscribe at your new blog address. The Email followers will continue to receive posts as normal.
Does that make sense? Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
Best,
Jeremey

Hi Jeremey,
Thanks for that comprehensive answer. I appreciate your time.
As long as the Facebook and Twitter followers will still receive my updates from my self-hosted blog, I’m happy.
Thanks again,
Paul

Hey Paul,
Yep! You can set-up Publicize through our Jetpack feature for self-hosted blogs. This will help you automatically share posts to Facebook and Twitter as soon as they are published. More info on setting that up can be found here:
http://jetpack.me/support/publicize/
Let me know if you have any additional questions going forward!
Cheers,
Jeremey

Hmm… Now I’m a bit confused. I thought that the Twitter and F’book followers were connected to the blog, not to me. The publicize feature for my self-hosted blog sends the post to my own Twitter/F’book followers, not to the original ones connected to my .com blog, doesn’t it?
Thanks,
Paul

Hey Paul,
The Facebook and Twitter followers were from your social networking profiles – not from the blog itself. The social network “followers” are from any social network that you have connected through Publicize. This is described a bit more in detail here:
So, if you connect your social networks again through Jetpack on your new site, the same Facebook and Twitter followers will still receive updates.
Does that make sense?
