    I am looking to find the tools to create pages…my own layouts…I keep gettingrefered to the same https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-configure-the-composition-of-a-page-1?replies=4#post-1650847 and it is NOT!!!!!!! what I am aksing about. I have spent all day on this and I am getting no where…can’t you folks understand?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like your blog are the themes found here http://wordpress.com/themes/

    There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot:

    • upload any third party themes,
    • create child themes,
    • create our own themes,
    • edit templates,
    • create our own layouts
    • or use stylesheets from other themes.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

    There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    OK TIME THIEF…Thanks for wasting my time by hyping your product than answering my question honestly.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am Volunteer and have answered support questions here for longer that most support staff has even been on Staff. I provided honest answers to the questions you posts based on my interpretation of what what the frack it is that you want to do. If you don’t like the answers that’s too bad.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ glenn

    Your question is vague. “Page” means something very specific here and the the volunteers are justifiably assuming that you’re using the word correctly. If you mean something else, you’ll have to be more precise with your question.

    Attacking the volunteers doesn’t move things along…

    @bumblepuppies
    This blogger has posted 3 threads and I dealt with the others re: Pages and layouts previously.

    Attacking the volunteers doesn’t move things along…

    Then why did you respond when there are Pages of threads that do not contain vague questions and have not been answered? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/view/no-replies/page/10

    @bumblepuppies

    Because …

    Don’t tempt me …

    I’m still waiting for clarification from glenn20008 and of course I have subscribed to this thread and all 3 of the threads he posted.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Clarification has not been forthcoming in any of them, so I’m about to just tell him to spend a couple of hundred bucks and get a WP.org blog and knock himself out.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ Bubblepuppies…Clarification? I guess you do not understand the concept of CREATING a layout. That means you are not filling out someone else’s template, but building your page as fits your creative needs. Its like the difference between approaching life as a multiple choice (choices as determined by other people) and approaching life as an essay question. I am looking to create, build, not fill in multiple choice questions.
    Timethief…you have exercised the right to not read what and understand what has been asked of you and instead give pat answers. You have on three occasions sent me back to the same page to find answers that have nothing to do with the questions posed. I am sorry if you feel attacked, but that is simply not the case. You dealt with single words, pages, layouts, not the entire concept or context within those words were used. If I said you should be denied internet access because you were stupid, that could be construed as an attack. I have said no such thing. Do you understand?

    Raincaster…where is the confusion? I have only been told to go look at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-configure-the-composition-of-a-page-1?replies=4#post-1650847 and I will find my answers there…only to have the thief of my time tell me that I cannot create my own compositions…

  • Unknown's avatar

    The short answer is: You can’t do that on a WordPress.com blog and you need to pay about $200 a year for hosting and a domain from somewhere else and install software from WordPress.org.

    Just like I said above.

    Attacking the volunteers doesn’t move things along…

    Then why did you respond when there are Pages of threads that do not contain vague questions and have not been answered?

    Every volunteer can choose to answer questions, or not. It’s not anyone else’s call.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ glenn

    Actually, I know what creating a layout means. I also know how to do it on WP.com instead of WP.org. WP permits a couple of workarounds.

    I choose not to divulge that information right now because the discussion has been less than 100% civil.

  • Unknown's avatar

    He can’t do what he wants here. He said he wants basically complete control. And yet his posts indicate he has less than expert skills. That combination means he can’t do it here at Wp.com.

    @Justjennifer, spending hours following some very bad, free advice from timethief, advances no one’s sense of self. She implied I could do what I wanted, but that I just needed to read and follow what she sent…clearly that is not the case. I regret my expressing my frustration, but then again I feel she made matters worse on this end, needlessly.

    @bumblepuppies
    …first who wants a work around? Is it too much to ask how to do things right/in the correct manner without having to adapt a program to do things it wasn’t intended?
    @the “helpers” in general…if there was some confusion about what I was asking then why did no one asked me for clarification of my needs rather then send me on a fruitless wild goose chase?

    @Raincoaster
    …thanks for the honesty. I have established a domain name…Arranging hosting is not a big issue…how do I build what I want?

    I implied nothing. I provided the best answers I could in three threads and they are correct answers.

    @the “helpers” in general…if there was some confusion about what I was asking then why did no one asked me for clarification of my needs rather then send me on a fruitless wild goose chase?

    The first thread is here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-configure-the-composition-of-a-page-1?replies=6#post-1650914
    Note what I asked you there:

    What do your mean by configure? A static page is a static page is a static page so what are referring to? …

    The second one is a duplicate https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-configure-the-composition-of-a-page?replies=4#post-1650970

    My answers in those threads and this one stand because they are correct answers.

    have established a domain name…Arranging hosting is not a big issue…how do I build what I want?

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and not for WordPress.org software installs. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

    You have attacked my honesty when it was never in question.
    You have accused me of giving bad answers when they were correct answers based on the vague information you provided me with and your failure to clearly express exactly what you wanted to accomplish.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @justjennifer

    Every volunteer can choose to answer questions, or not. It’s not anyone else’s call.

    Where did I say anything in opposition to that?
    Nowhere.
    Where was the answer in whatbumblepuppies posted?
    There was none.
    I asked a question and received no answer to it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @timethief

    I was trying to “tempt” a pretty girl on Valentine’s Day.

    Joking aside, all I wanted was to acknowledge that you had spoken and axe a side conversation that would have inevitably ended up as an argument about nothing.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @bumblepuppies
    You defended me and diverted a side argument. It’s all good between us. What was needed from the outset was clarity and as glen20008 did not comprehend what I posted here Feb 14, 2014, 1:18 PM, raincoaster provided it when she told him to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install. I concur with her opinion re: lack of skills and assume that given his expectations glen20008’s learning curve re: managing his own wordpress.org install will be a very steep one. I say best wishes with that.
